FIRST LIZARD MAN WITNESS KILLED! June 20, 2009 - Cryptozoology online has reported the death of 37 year-old Christopher Davis, who was killed in what police claim was a drug related incident. In 1988, the small town of Bishopville, South Carolina was thrown into a tizzy when the then 17 year-old Davis, claimed to have been attacked while changing a tire on a deserted road by a 7-foot tall, red eyed, scaly skinned monstrosity, which would be henceforth dubbed the LIZARD MAN. "In July 1988, Chris was the first witness interviewed as seeing the Lizard Man," said former Sheriff Liston Truesdale. "And what impressed me was that he told the same story every time. And he had to tell the story over and over again to the media and others. If you're lying, you can't tell the same story twice." In the wake of this tragedy, Jon Downes of Fortean Zoology has published an article about the untimely death faced by Davis and many other eyewitnesses to "paranornmal" events.

ACTORS HAVE CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH NESSIE! May 28, 2009 - Jon Downes' Center for Fortean Zoology blog has reported that the cast of the stage version of Allo Allo (which was adapted from the British sitcom of the same name) have had an alleged encounter with the LAKE MONSTER known across the globe as the LOCH NESS MONSTER. The crew of the Jacobite Queen witnessed highly unusual readings on the ship's sonar screen, somewhere between Dores and Urquhart Castle. According to captain John Askew, it was the first-time in his 15-years working on the loch that he successfully picked up images of this kind. An expert in sonar who has been studying Loch Ness since 1973 couldn't explain the sighting."This has got me puzzled and has every appearance of a genuine sonar contact," said reknowned naturalist and Loch Ness expert, Adrian Shine, of The Loch Ness Project. "The fact there's five items on the screen can be explained, as a single object often appears again as an echo. This certainly adds to the Loch Ness mystery and will be the subject of further investigation." In the 1970s Shine also led an expedition to search for a monster in neighboring LOCH MORAG.

ARE EARTH ROBOTS DESTROYING LIFE ON MARS? May 26, 2009 - New Scientist has reported that the very probes which have been sent to detect life on Mars, may actually be responsible for destroying any evidence of organic material. The Phoenix and Viking landers looked for organic molecules by heating soil samples to similarly high temperatures to evaporate them and analyse them in gas form. When Douglas Ming of NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, and colleagues tried heating organics and perchlorates like this on Earth, the resulting combustion left no trace of organics behind. Instead of identifying chemicals that could point to life, NASA's robot explorers may have been toasting them by mistake.

KILLER BLOB DEVOURS VIETNAMESE LAKE! May 24, 2009 - Vietnam's Thanhnien News has reported that Scientists are researching the origin of a a growing viscous blob that has developed recently in a 70-hectare lake in the northern province of Vinh Phuc, killing the fish and leaving local residents very worried. The creature taking over a lake is actually colonies of living organisms called Bryozoan. Further studies are being carried out to verify the creatures’ possible toxicity as well as their origin, said Phan Thi Xuan, chairman of the Binh Minh Cooperative.

SIBERIAN BIGFOOT STEALS ONIONS! May 19, 2009 - Mosnews has reported that the Shor people in Kemerovo Region, Siberia, are reporting that a HAIRY HOMINID is snatching up the wild leek crop that is a staple of their diet. The creature, which eyewitnesses claim is approximately 6 and a half feet tall and covered with reddish black fur, has been leaving, huge BIGFOOT-like tracks in it's wake. Hairy, wild man sightings are common in this remote section of the taiga and they have received attention worldwide. An expedition headed by director of the International Center for Hominology Igor Burtsev (who was also investigating similar sightings in Tennesse) visited the area at the end of March to study footprints found in Azasskaya Cave. One is forced to speculate if this creature may be releated to Russia's notorious ALMAS.

THE MOTHMAN SWINE FLUE CONNECTION! May 11, 2009 - Flash News has reported that famed author and cryptozoologist, Loren Coleman, is investigating the connection between a spate of MOTHMAN sightings and the appearance of the H1N1 virus in Mexico. The last sighting occurred on March 9, 2009, about a month before the virus hit and killed dozens. There had been approximately 30 more reported sightings in the previous months. Coleman claims the Mothman has been linked to a curse since 1966, and more than 83 people have died after brushes with the cryptid. The Mexican variety of this bizarre creature was sketched by witnesses in rural Mexico – the same place where the swine flu originated – and was dubbed “Man Bat.” The description of this beast is much like other AVIAN ANOMALIES such as Cornwall,England's OWLMAN, the Chinese MAN-DRAGON, Germany's FREIBURG SHRIEKER and THE BLACK BIRD OF CHERNOBYL and, on a more local note, the North American BATSQUATCH, just to name a few.

MYSTERY SKULL DISCOVERED IN TEXAS! May 10, 2009 - NBC has reported that a plumber working on a construction project outside Alcuin Montessori School in North Dallas, unearthed a mysterious primate skull. The skull, which was buried about five feet underground and is six inches from front to back and two inches wide, resembles what some eyewitness have described as a bizarre, aggressive, baboon-like North American primate known as DEVIL MONKEYS. “We all know it’s a primate,” said David Evans, 25, of Alvarado. “We just don’t know which kind.” A noted anthropologist for the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office, Dr. Dana Austin, viewed photographs of the skull and said it was definitely an “old-world primate,” possibly a monkey or chimp.

ARKANSAS APE MAN REMEMBERED! April 29, 2009 - NWA News has published an article recounting the scores of eyewitness reports of HAIRY HOMNID sightings that plagued the Decatur area in 2003. While some claim that the creature was nothing more than an escaped baboon, others insist that it was a genuine ape man, not unlike its cousin that haunted Fouke, Arkansas in the 1970s, and was made famous in Charles B. Pierce's, 1972 psuedo-documentary "The Legend of Boggy Creek." Read the original 2003 report here.

MYSTERY BEAST ATTACKS INIDAN VILLAGERS! April 21, 2009 - The Times of India has reported that the mysterious animal that beast four people in Ballia, on April 9, is still on the loose. Although some searchers have suggested that the animal in question may be a leopard or a fishing cat, the dearth of any forest areas for at least 150 kilometers, leaves open the possibility that these bizarre attacks may be the result of human contact with an as yet unknown creature.

MYSTERY MONSTERS OF THE BRITISH ISLES! April 21, 2009 - Dr. Karl Shuker has published a blog article chronicling some of the British Isles' lesser known cryptids, such as the notorious Irish crocodile or "water hound" known as the DOBHAR-CHU, as well as numerous other AQUATIC ENIGMAS and LAKE MONSTERS.

STRANGE TREE-DOG SEEN IN SANTA CRUZ! April 10, 2009 - Alien Seeker News has reported that a bizarre canine/felid HYBRID BEAST was seen in Santa Cruz in 1984. An eyewitness claims that the beast looked like a Doberman pincher. Eyewitness, Ronnie Sanders, had this to say about the event: "We watched this unusual dog for a good while. The reason why my mother and I were watching, is because the way it walked, which was like a cat. You know, like a cat on the prowl for a mouse. The animal looked at us and then jumped about 7 feet into a tree limb and went jumping from tree limb to tree limb until we couldn't see it anymore." The episode took place at The Mystery Spot, and area that some believe may serve as a vortex or portal that can bring in interdimensional beings or creatures into our world.

SURGEON'S PHOTOS RE-EXAMINED! January 30, 2009 - Cryptomundo has published an article written by famed cryptozoologist and author, Loren Colman questioning the veracity of the so-called 'death bed' confession, which has led most of the world to conclude that London gynecologist, Robert Kenneth Wilson's, 1934 photos of the LOCH NESS MONSTER are a hoax. The first (and most famous) photo came to be known simply as “The Surgeon’s Photo” and for decades it was considered to be the best evidence of the existence of Nessie in particular and LAKE MONSTERS in general.

IS THERE LIFE ON MARS? January 02, 2009 - Exopolotics has reported that attorney Andrew D. Basiago claims he has been able to spot humanoid life forms in blue jump suits, as well as various animal forms, statues and buildings, in a photograph taken in 2007 by NASA's Mars Spirit Rover. Do the images prove that life truly exists somewhere else than Earth or are they just a lot of rocks and wishful thinking? You decide.

GARGANTUAN SPIDER FOUND IN MEKONG REGION! December 16, 2008 - The Australian has reported that a plate sized arachnid has been discovered in the Greater Mekong, which comprises 600,000 square kilometres of wetlands and rainforest along 4,500km of the Mekong River in Cambodia, Laos, Burma, Thailand, Vietnam and China. The Greater Mekong is described as one of the last scientifically unexplored regions of the world and it abounds in life seen nowhere else in the world. So little is known about the ecology of the region that previously unknown animals and plants have been turning up at a rate of two a week for a decade. Who knows what might be next?

MYSTERY "MASS" WASHES UP IN NEW ZEALAND! September 23, 2008 - Newstalk ZB has reported that a mysterious white mass has been discovered on Waikanae Beach on the Kapiti Coast. The barrel-shaped mass washed up on Wellington's Breaker Bay at the weekend. Yesterday there were reports of three more washing ashore on Kapiti Island and now Waikanae residents say there is one on their beach today which fits the same description. They say it is covered in barnacles and looks to have been in the water for some time. This harkens back to other CURIOUS CARCASSES and GLOBSTERS that have washed up on New Zealand such as the infamous KAIKOURA CARCASS.

NEW SPECIES OF "MARTIAN" ANT DISCOVERED! September 16, 2008 - MSNBC has reported that a newly discovered species of a blind, subterranean predator — dubbed the "Ant from Mars" — is likely a descendant of one of the very first ants to evolve on Earth, a new study finds. Christian Rabeling, an evolutionary biology graduate student at the University of Texas at Austin, found the only known specimen of the new ant species in dead plant material on the ground in the Amazon rainforest at the Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuaria in Manaus, Brazil, in 2003. Rabeling and his colleagues named the ant Martialis heureka ("ant from Mars") because they'd never seen an ant like it before.

MONSTER DEVOURS GOATS IN CAMEROON! September 14, 2008 - All Africa has reported that a mysterious, nocturnal monster has been marauding the Kumba vicinity, recently devouring four goats donated to Buea Diocese Bishop, His Lordship Emmanuel Bushu. In the place where the goats were alleged to have been devoured, there was no blood, only patches of meat. The same monster (which some believe to be a tiger)is alleged to have eaten a pregnant goat leaving no trace of blood.

SCIENETISTS ON THE VERGE OF CREATING LIFE! September 10, 2008 - Wired has reported that a team of biologists and chemists, led by Jack Szostak, a molecular biologist at Harvard Medical School, is closing in on bringing non-living matter to life. The most intriguing possibility of all may be that the protocells in Szostak's lab do not closely model earthly life's origins. If that's true, human beings, ourselves the product of evolution from the most primitive organisms, would have created an alternative path to imbuing matter with the properties of life.

BIGFOOT BODY A HOAX! August 20, 2008 - National Geographic has reported that only days after Georgia residents Matt Whitton and Rick Dyer told reporters at a press conference on Friday that they had a dead Bigfoot body, their evidence has been exposed as a rubber ape costume. The deception was made public by the very company Whitton and Dyer teamed up with to announce their supposed find. In a statement posted on the Web site of Searching for Bigfoot Inc., "Sasquatch Detective" Steve Kulls said he realized the Bigfoot "corpse" was a fake when the frozen body began to thaw—after the press conference had already taken place.

BIGFOOT CORPSE FOUND IN GEORGIA! August 14, 2008 - Fox News has reported that two Northern California men and two Georgians say they've got a body, a photo and DNA evidence pertaining to the elusive forest-dwelling man-ape known across the globe as BIGFOOT — and that they'll reveal all at a press conference in Palo Alto, Calif., on Friday. Matthew Whitton, a cop in Clayton County, Ga., and his friend Rick Dyer, a former corrections officer, say they recently found the body in the woods of northern Georgia. Veteran Bigfoot tracker Tom Biscardi said he's examined the body, and that scientists will get their chance soon. Seen the Fox News clip here.

IS THERE A LEMUR LOOSE IN BOSTON? July 28, 2008 - The New Yorker has reported that several weeks ago, Bill James, the Boston Red Sox senior adviser, was walking home from Fenway Park, when he came across a strange-looking lemur animal with a speckled gray head. He at first took it to be a cat, but soon noticed a number of peculiar characteristics: the animal had large eyes on the sides of its head, a puglike face, and an extra-long tail and it moved with “an odd sashaying motion.” The animal scurried under a parked car, at one point seeming to lift its hind legs over a stick in the road by using its tail as a kind of lever.

YETI HAIR DISCOVERED! July 27, 2008 - The Independent has reported that tests at Oxford Brookes University on hairs which local people believe came from a HAIRY HOMINID in an Indian jungle have failed to link them with any known species and are said to have "a startling resemblance" to those brought back from the Himalayas by Sir Edmund Hillary half a century ago. The two short hairs – 33mm and 44mm long – were picked up in thick forest in the Garo hills in the mountains of north-east India five years ago after a forester reported seeing a yeti – locally known as mande barung, or "forest man" – for three days in a row breaking branches off trees and eating their sap. Ape expert Ian Redmond, who is co-ordinating the research, said: "The hairs are the most positive evidence yet that a yeti might possibly exist, because they are tangible. We are very excited about the preliminary results, although more tests need to be done."

WEREWOLF RUNS WILD IN BRAZIL! July 27, 2008 - Forgetomori has reorted that inhabitants from the rural area of Taua, Ceara, are scared of the vicious HYBRID BEAST known as a WEREWOLF who is robbing sheep and breaking into houses of the locality. Two cases were registered by the city police on July 9. An eyewitness said to the police that she saw a man “half-man and half-wolf”. On Tuesday, a 12 year old boy also told the police officers that he saw a similar figure near his house. Both reports suggest that the figure is “very ugly and have a strong sulfur smell”. “I believe it is a person using a werewolf mask to scare the people of the area, who strongly believe in folk tales. They are innocent and naive people”, said the regional deputy officer, Marcos Sandro Lira.

PRIVATE DETECTIVE ON BIGFOOT'S TRAIL! July 15, 2008 - Mercury News has published a report about longtime private investigator David Paulides, who has decided to track don evidence of HAIRY HOMINIDS, considering the reality of these legendary creatures as yet another case to solve. Paulides, now the director of the North American Bigfoot Search, claims it is the only group in the world researching and studying the subject full time. "No one has ever given 100 percent of their time to this," said Paulides, citing the lack of serious and credible efforts put into tracking Bigfoot. "The evidence is overwhelming. There is a lot more that needs to be understood. The puzzle will be solved."

Other colossal eel-like beasts have been recorded, such as those that allegedly dwell in the depths of Newfoundland's Crescent Lake, which the locals refer to as CRESSIE, and upstate New York's vicious eel beast, OLD GREENY.

STRANGE FROG HAS NO LUNGS! April 08, 2008 - Live Science has reported that the first Live Science has reported that lungless frog has been discovered lurking in the jungles of Borneo. The enigmatic amphibian, dubbed Barbourula kalimantanensis, apparently gets all the oxygen it needs through its skin. Scientists first saw one of these frogs 30 years ago, but due to their rarity, just one other specimen had been collected since then and neither had been dissected. "No one thought to open them up — there was no real reason to believe that they could be lungless," said researcher David Bickford, an evolutionary biologist at the National University of Singapore. "Because these specimens were so rare, they had never been dissected. If you have just one specimen in your museum, you don't want to rip it open!"

HEARST MUSEUM PUTS BIGFOOT CASTS ON DISPLAY! March 03, 2008 - UC Berkeley has reported that the Hearst Museum of Anthropology has decided to pay homage to America's favorite HAIRY HOMINID with a museum display that includes allegedly deformed sasquatch tracks made by an individual known as Cripplefoot, which were found in the snow by a local butcher near a Bossburg, Wash., garbage dump in 1969. Famed bigfoot researcher and anthropologist, Grover Krantz, donated the casts to the museum in 1970.

SYNTHETIC LIFE A REALITY! January 25, 2008 - The BBC has reported that an important step has been taken in the quest to create a synthetic lifeform. A US team reported in Science magazine how it built the entire DNA code of a common bacterium in the laboratory using blocks of genetic material. The group hopes eventually to use engineered genomes to make organisms that can produce clean fuels and take carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere. Publication of the research gives others the chance to scrutinise it. Some have ethical concerns. Critics have been calling for several years now for a debate on the risks of creating "artificial life" in a test tube.

FIRST ANIMAL / HUMAN HYBRIDS TO BE CREATED! January 19, 2008 - The Times has reported that experiments to create Britain’s first embryos that combine human and animal material will begin within months after a government watchdog gave its approval yesterday to two research teams to carry out the controversial work. Scientists at King’s College London, and the University of Newcastle will inject human DNA into empty eggs from cows to create embryos known as cytoplasmic hybrids, which are 99.9 per cent human in genetic terms. The experiments are intended to provide insights into diseases such as Parkinson’s and spinal muscular atrophy by producing stem cells containing genetic defects that contribute to these conditions

NEW TREE SPECIES DISCOVERED IN MADAGASCAR! January 18, 2008 - The AP has reported that a self-destructing palm tree that flowers once every 100 years and then dies has been discovered on the Indian Ocean island of Madagascar. The name of the giant palm and its remarkable life cycle will be detailed in a study by Kew Gardens scientists in the Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society. "It's spectacular. It does not flower for maybe 100 years and when it's like this it can be mistaken for other types of palm," said Mijoro Rakotoarinivo, who works for the London botanical gardens in Madagascar. Fans of the bizarre will no doubt recall that the most notorious of this island's legendary flora is the so-called man-eating tree of Madagascar. The first European description of this bulbous tree, a kind of elephantine Venus flytrap, appeared in the South Australian Register of 1881. In horrifying detail, the author tells how he watched aghast as members of the Mkodo tribe offered a woman in sacrifice to the dreaded tree, whose white, transparent leaves reminded him of the quivering mouthparts of an insect:

COLOSSAL December 14, 2007 - Wired has reported that the remains of a bus-sized prehistoric "monster" reptile was found on a remote Arctic island and may be a new species never before recorded by science, researchers said Tuesday. Initial excavation of a site on the Svalbard islands in August yielded the remains, teeth, skull fragments and vertebrae of a reptile estimated to measure nearly 40 feet long. "It seems the monster is a new species," said Joern Harald Hurum of the University of Oslo to The Associated Press. This news harkens back to classic frozen creature cases such as the infamous GLACIER ISLAND CARCASS, which made its way onto the pages of the New York Times on November 26, 1930.

This incident comes on the heels of recent HAIRY HOMNID sightings in the area.

MARS ROVER FINDS SIGNS OF LIFE! December 12, 2007 - The London Telegraph has reported that Nasa claims its Mars rover Spirit has discovered "the best evidence yet" of a past habitable environment on the planet's surface. Spirit unearthed a patch of silica-rich soil on a plateau called Home Plate. Researchers believe the deposits came from an ancient hot-spring environment or an environment called a fumarole, in which acidic steam rises through cracks. "The evidence is pointing most strongly toward fumarolic conditions, like you might see in Hawaii and in Iceland," said rover chief scientist Steve Squyres.

IS ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE A VALID INVESTIGATIVE TOOL? December 10, 2007 - The Frame 352 blog discusses the importance of anecdotal evidence in the pursuit of unknown animals.

Bigfoot Team Member T.J. Biscardi said, "He could have thrown me two-hundred yards back with the others. He was in excess of eight feet tall, and four-foot wide. Just looking at him, you could tell he was very powerful."

FT. WORTH'S FISHY GOAT-MAN REMEMBERED! December 03, 2007 - Heckler Spray has published an article about Ft. Worth's infmaous HYBRID BEAST - the scaly Goatman. The monster made headlines on July 10, 1969 when it apparently jumped over a car full of people on a LOVERS LANE. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram described the sighting the day it happened. According to a witness they interviewed: "We were driving around trying to find it, when we heard it squalling. We heard it before we saw it. I saw it come across the road and I tried to take a picture of it but the flash didn't work. I took another picture but I don't know if I got anything because I was too busy rolling up my window. We watched him run up and down a bluff for a while and other cars arrived. There must have been 30 or 40 people watching him.

ARE HEAVENLY LAKE MONSTERS MUTANT TROUT? November 26, 2007 - China.org has reported that 77-year-old Kim Li-tae, a senior researcher from the National Academy of Science of The Democratic People's Republic of Korea, said the "Tianchi monster" (or "HEAVENLY LAKE MONSTER"), which a Chinese photographer caught on film last month, is probably the mutated offspring of trout stocked by the North Korea 40 years ago. Kim said that he was one of the North Korean researchers who released nine trout into Tianchi Lake, located on Changbai Mountain, on July 30, 1960. "The fish mutate during growth and form new varieties, so the trout they stocked might now be called "Tianchi trout," Kim said. This explanation, however, does not explain the numerous sightings of these creatures, which go back for 150 years. Read more here and here.

UNIDENTIFIED ORANGE APE SEEN IN FLORIDA! November 25, 2007 - The Baker County Press has published a report regarding a large, orange colored monkey-like creature, which was cornered by eyewitnesses and a wildlife official in a tree just north of Glen St. Mary, Florida, before slipping away. Some have speculated that the beast might be a baby SKUNK APE.

BIZARRE CARCASS REDISCOVERED! November 23, 2007 - The Bozeman Daily Chronicle has reported that the missing mounted carcass of a wolf-like creature that prowled the Madison Valley 121 years ago, killing livestock and letting out screams that one account said would leave a person's hair standing on end, has been discovered in the Idaho Museum of Natural History in Pocatello. The only evidence of the creature's existence was a missing taxidermy mount and a grainy black-and-white photograph of that mount - which fueled strange speculation about what kind of animal it really was. The tale was again picked up by writers Loren Coleman and Jerome Clark in their book “Cryptozoology A to Z.” In that book, Coleman linked it to a Native American legend about the “shunka warak'in,” a creature that snuck into camps at night to steal dogs. Coleman and Clark suggested that a DNA test should be done on the mount to determine what it is. Kirby, however, was not so certain he was ready to end a mystery that had been passed down by his family for four generations.

KILLER JELLYFISH ATTACK SALMON FARM! November 22, 2007 - The Globe and Mail has reported that a salmon farm in Northern Ireland has lost its entire population of more than 100,000 fish, worth some $2-million, to a cataclysmic jellyfish attack. The Northern Salmon Co. Ltd. said billions of jellyfish — in a dense pack of about 16 square kilometers and 11 meters deep — overwhelmed the fish last week in two net pens about 1.5 kilometers off the coast of the Glens of Antrim, north of Belfast. “It was unprecedented, absolutely amazing. The sea was red with these jellyfish and there was nothing we could do about it, absolutely nothing,” said Managing director John Russell.

MYSTERY SHRIMP NETTED OFF FLORIDA! September 17, 2007 - The Florida Times-Union has reported that fisherman and Jacksonville native, Rhoden Baker, netted a large clawed creature, which he assumed was some kind of lobster. "I was going to put him in the pot when I got home, but my wife wouldn't let me." Baker said. Scientists have identified the marine animal as the rare Macrobrachium ohione (or Ohio Shrimp.) The shrimp is supposed to grow to about 4 inches long, but this specimen is closer to 12.

EXTINCT WHITE FLAG DOLPHIN SEEN! September 04, 2007 - The International Herald Tribune has reported that a white dolphin native to China's Yangtze river that scientists declared extinct last year has possibly been spotted swimming in the wild, offering a small shred of hope for the animal's revival, a researcher said Wednesday. Wang Ding, a researcher with the Institute of Hydrobiology under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said a man saw and shot a video of what appears to be a baiji or white flag dolphin in central China's Anhui province on Aug. 19. A team of scientists will go to the area in September to look for the dolphin

TEXAS CHUPACABRA CRAZE HEATS UP! September 02, 2007 - The Associated Press has reported that renowned hunter, Phylis Canion, has discovered what she believes to be a chupacabra carcass outside of her Texas ranch on Highway 183. "It is one ugly creature," Canion said, holding the frozen head of the mammal, which has big ears, large fanged teeth and grayish-blue, mostly hairless skin. "I've seen a lot of nasty stuff. I've never seen anything like this." She suspects, as have many rural denizens over the years, that a chupacabra may have killed as many as 26 of her chickens in the past couple of years. Canion is now turning her discovery into a booming T-shirt business.

NEW SPECIES OF FROG DISCOVERED IN COLUMBIA! August 29, 2007 - Live Science has reported that a new poisonous frog has been discovered by scientists in a remote mountainous region of Colombia. The new frog, which measures almost 0.8 inches in length and has yellowish skin, was named the "golden frog of Supatá." Study leader Oswaldo Cortes, a graduate student at La Universidad Distrital in Colombia, says the discovery highlights how little is known about the biodiversity of Earth and how many species are left undiscovered.

"Humans went through several stages of evolution in the last 400,000 years," said study co-author Jonathan Pritchard of the University of Chicago. "If we can compare humans’ and Neanderthals’ genomes, then we can possibly identify what the key genetic changes were during that final stage of human evolution." It has also been confirmed that the Neanderthal brains were bigger than modern humans, further fueling speculation that these hominids (who continue to bee see throughout the globe - most notably in Russia - may have more than instinct to help them remain below the radar of the human race.

The series of photos show a strange protuberance sticking out of the water. "This thing was floating on top like a large crocodile or large water snake," said Stafford. "We were blown away,"

SCIENTISTS PURSUE MONSTERS OF LAKE BAIKAL! August 18, 2005 - China's People's Daily has reported that the legendary beasts that are said to dwell in Russia's Lake Baikal, the largest freshwater body on Earth, may not be not be reptilian or amphibious, as once suspected, but mammalian. Chinese Academy of Sciences professor Chen Yifeng, who is currently participating in the China-Russia comprehensive scientific survey in Lake Baikal, claimed that according to the descriptions, the "LAKE MONSTERS" refer not to "monsters", but large mammals, which are as yet unknown to humankind. Reports say that the mammals, which originally lived in the ocean or the land, gradually adapted to their new freshwater environment and have so far multiplied as a new species,

CHAMP CAUGHT ON VIDEO! August 18, 2005 - The Burlington Free Press has reported that Vermont natives Dick Affolter and Pete Bodette, while fishing for salmon on Lake Champlain, claim to have seen and video taped an approximately 15-foor long, serpentine creature with an alligator-like head, which some have suggested may be CHAMP. "We saw something on that lake we've never seen before," Bodette said. "Is what we saw the same thing other people saw, and they called Champ? I don't know." In 2003, a team of scientists led by Elizabeth von Muggenthaler, recorded a series of high-frequency sounds similar to those made by sea mammals coming from the lake's depths. "This just doesn't belong in the same category as crop circles or a Sasquatch sighting," von Muggenthaler said. "It needs to be treated as real. You don't want to minimize the scientific importance of this."

LOCH NESS HOAX BACKFIRES! August 18, 2005 - The Press Gazette has reported that a £150,000 television stunt backfired and injured a diver when a 16-foot, 440 pound animatronic model of "Nessie" went out of control during a hoax allegedly perpetrated by Britain's Channel 5, who had hoped to gain publicity for a 90-minute documentary titled "Loch Ness Monster: The Ultimate Experiment" by revealing that what had caused the stir was a model. The special effects team spent 14 weeks building the model, nicknamed Lucy, from fibreglass and polyurethane rubber. Pneumatic air mechanisms inside the body allowed movements of the head, jaw and neck. The model now lies at the bottom of the Loch. "The Loch Ness Monster is one of the world's most enduring myths, and we thought it would be fascinating to see if the general public, fed on a diet of movie special effects, could still believe in Nessie," said Five's senior program controller, Chris Shaw.

PREDATORY REPTILE SEEN IN L.A. LAKE! August 17, 2005 - The L.A. Times has reported that a 6 to 8-foot long, reptilian creature with a "jaw like a steel trap" was seen in Los Angeles County's Lake Machado last week by an anonymous park gardner and Chief Ranger Albert Torres. Authorities believe that this beast may be a spectacled caiman, a crocodile cousin from Central and South America, although no official identification has been made. The lake will be closed from visitors until the creature is captured. "We're going to try to call in a special company to trap alligators. Our animal regulation department does not have this expertise," said Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn. "My concern is safety so we're immediately posting signs and closing off the shoreline area to all visitors to the park until we can capture this guy."

RETURN OF THE FLATHEAD LAKE MONSTER! August 11, 2005 - The Bigfork Eagle has reported that two new eyewitness accounts of Montana's FLATHEAD LAKE MONSTER have surfaced. Polson trial attorney, Jim Manley, and his wife Julia are among the latest to have seen the legendary beast, which some believe to be a giant eel left over from prehistoric ages. The Manley's describe the creature as "serpentine" with several humps visible above the water. "People who know us know we wouldn't make this up," Julia Manley said. "A lot of people are skeptical, like we once were, until you see it yourself. Then you come to believe something is lurking there, swimming in the lake."

RIVER LEA MONSTER MAY BE GIANT TURTLE! August 11, 2005 - The BBC has reported that the unidentified predator stalking its prey beneath the surface of River Lea may not me a rogue crocodile, as some have speculated, but may, in fact, be a giant turtle. Mark Gallant, of the Lea Rivers Trust, who witnessed the creature attack a Canadian Goose, claimed that whatever the identity of this mystery beast, its ravenous appetite must be curbed: "We are going to have to try baiting some traps because obviously we can't have a creature that's the top predator preying on our wildlife - you'll have none left."

NEW SPECIES OF LEMUR DISCOVERED! August 10, 2005 - The Chicago Sun-Times has reported that a tiny new type of primate has been discovered in Madagascar. The mouse lemur has been dubbed "Microcebus lehilahytsara," the latter of which means "good man" in the local language. The name is a nod to Steve Goodman, who has spent 20 years inventorying the forests of Madagascar, an African island nation about the size of Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin and Iowa combined. Many species discovered on this island are found nowhere else on Earth.

Mark Gallant, of the Lea Rivers Trust, who was on the boat, said: "Whatever that thing was, it had to be big". Speculations as to the identity of this enigmatic carnivore range from a crocodile to a pike to an 8-foot European catfish. "I'm not 100% certain that it's a crocodile, but I'm skeptical about the idea it could be a pike,” said Gallant. “I would've thought, if it was a pike, there would have been a bit more of a struggle. The way this thing disappeared was almost instantaneous."

SUNDBERG CLAIMS NEW EVIDENCE OF SELMA! August 05, 2005 - The Aftenposten has reported that monster hunter Jan-Ove Sundberg claims to have evidence for the existence of SELMA, the beast reputed to live in Norway's Lake Seljord. Sundberg and his team GUST (Global Underwater Search Team) told television reporters that they had logged sonar readings of a large creature in the lake. "...we heard some very loud noises on the hydrophone. The sounds were so powerful that the our headphones banged and vibrated," Sundberg said. "If researchers are to be satisfied we have to catch it in our traps. Or we have to take photos or film that demonstrates it is an unknown animal. Half-bad pictures from long distance aren't good enough." In August, Sundberg claimed to have captured video footage of the elusive beast.

The partially rotten corpse reportedly has a long thin head, a snout nearly 3-feet long, some hair and orange stripes across a 9 to 12-foot wide belly. This creature's "snout" begs comparison to numerous, unidentified sea creatures which have washed ashore over the past century, most notably, the notorious South African cryptid carcass TRUNKO. A fisherman known only as Liu, was astounded by the sheer size of the beast: “I have never seen such a monster," said Liu. "It was larger than a whale.”

EXPEDITION TO FIND CHINESE LAKE MONSTERS! July 29, 2005 - China Daily has reported that Chinese researchers will launch another investigation in August to explore the mystery of the "lake monsters" of Kanasi. An exploration team comprised of ecological experts and volunteers will observe the lake from August 12, said Yuan Guoying, president of Xinjiang Ecological Association, which organized the study. This mission comes on the heels of an initial expedition, which was launched in June after seven tourists from Beijing captured two, 30-foot long objects on video on June 7th. In 1985, teachers and students from Xinjiang University's biology department launched the first search for the creatures and discovered that dozens of huge red fish, each 33 to 49 feet long and weighing more than four tons lived in China's deepest alpine lake, which has long been rumored to be the home of a colony of LAKE MONSTERS.

The existence of water on Mars raises the prospect that life will one day be found on the planet and boosts plans to send manned missions.

BIGFOOT HAIR CAME FROM A BISON! July 28, 2005 - The Edmonton Sun has reported that the hair sample found near the recent spate of Yukon Sasquatch sightings belongs not to an unknown species of primate, but a North American bison. Although Dr. David Coltman, a wildlife geneticist at the University of Alberta, believed the sample was from a bison all along, he offered Bigfoot believers a glimmer of hope. "On the basis of what we found we cannot rule out that there could be a bipedal primate species in North America that is as yet undescribed," Coltman said. "While we have shown that this hair sample did not come from an unknown species, such as a sasquatch, the faithful can take solace in that this finding does not disprove that such a species exists."

KILLER EEL STRIKES AGAIN! July 27, 2005 - Australia's NEWS.com has reported that the giant killer eel (dubbed "Eddie" in honor of its first victim, a Jack Russell Terrier), has moved upstream from its home in Tommy Finn's trout farm to the Yarra River, where it now stalks its prey. Trout farm manager Gary Wales claimed that a man, looking as white as a ghost, entered the trout farm late Wednesday night, claiming the serpent had snatched a goose he had been feeding. The attack follows another incident in April when fisherman Chris Healy said he was pulled into the water by "something unknown". In February of 2005, approximately 100 anglers descended on the farm in an effort to collect $3,000 reward, which was offered for the capture of the predatory beast.

OGOPOGO MAKES NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC! July 26, 2005 - The Kelowna Daily Courier has reported that the existence of a large, unknown aquatic creature (known to many as OGOPOGO) may be confirmed in a National Geographic special, which is scheduled to air on August 1, 2005. Forensic investigator Joe Nickol came to the Okanagan February and used a surveying crew to examine some of the best film footage ever taken of something in Okanagan Lake. The crew used survey quadrants to determine that there was something 40-60 feet long 300 feet offshore filmed in 1968: "They concluded there was a large unknown animal in the lake, moving at a good speed, pushing water ahead of it," said Kelowna Ogopogo expert, Arlene Gaal. "It was nice to get those assurances."

BIGFOOT HAIR UNDER MICROSCOPE! July 22, 2005 - The London Free Press has reported that associate professor of biology at the University of Alberta, David Coltman, has offered to run a DNA test on what some believe is a sample of Sasquatch hair found in the Yukon. The sample is heading to Edmonton after a Yukon Environment Department laboratory technician, Philip Merchant, analyzed the hair and speculated that it may have come from a bison. Dennis Senger, the department's communications co-ordinator claimed that the results were not entirely conclusive. "If it truly is Sasquatch DNA, it will probably not match anything," Coltman said. "It should most closely resemble human or gorilla."

ARKANSAS APE MAN! July 22, 2005 - Arkansas's KFSM-5 News presents three video clips chronicling HAIRY-HOMINID sightings in LeFlore County. These sighting harken back to the spate of as yet unidentified ape-man encounters, which haunted the Decatur region back in 2003.

BIOLOGISTS ANALYZE YUKON BIGFOOT HAIR! July 21, 2005 - The CBC has reported that biologist are analyzing hair samples taken from the community of Teslin where nine people reported sasquatch sightings 10 days ago. Phillip Merchant, a territorial biologist, says so far tests show the hair was likely not from a bear. "There are new electron microscopes that could be applied and it's all a question of getting someone who is interested in doing it and what the bill is and who will pay," says Merchant. "If it comes from the government of the Yukon does it give it an aura of authenticity? We have to be careful we don't send people on a wild goose chase."

UNKNOWN CATFISH HOOKED IN OREGON! July 21, 2005 - Oregon's Statesman Journal has reported that part-time bass-fishing guide Ted Sowers caught an as yet unidentified 3-foot, 15 lbs, lemon-yellow, white eyed, species of catfish in a Willamette River slough on July 4th. "It was almost ugly, you know," said Sowers. "We landed it, and we looked at it for quite awhile, and there were no spots on it anywhere, no coloring other than what you see, and the eyes were white. The eyes just seemed like they didn't have any color." Sowers, a strong supporter of the catch-and-release philosophy of fishing, said he didn't think twice about releasing the butter-colored behemoth. "I just said 'Let's get a picture of it, and we'll find out later what it is, because we didn't want to kill it."

MORE SIGHTINGS OF YUKON BIGFOOT! July 20, 2005 - The Edmonton Journal has reported yet another HAIRY-HOMINID sighting in Teslin, Yukon. It's at least the third sighting of a bush creature in Teslin within the past year. Melvin Harper claimed to have seen a figure moving past a light post, then through a forested island next to some log houses. "It was something big, about eight feet tall. It's black, hairy, muscular. It was huge," Harper said. "He was, like, teasing us, making noises in the bush, coming back and forth." Roger Smarch also claimed to have heard the beast as well as discovering large tracks and a tuft of hair. "It was like a sasquatch," said Tom Dickson, who also saw the creature. "Like how you see it on TV, how they advertise it, the same image. You can't see no eyes, nothing, just black, but it was moving pretty fast."

HUNTING BIGFOOT! July 16, 2005 - Wyoming's Star Tribune has reported that Bigfoot researcher Thomas Biscardi is planning to hunt and capture a live BIGFOOT near Happy Camp, California. This particular location has been chosen based on two recent sightings from allegedly credible witnesses. When Biscardi followed up on these sightings, his investigation led to finding footprints indicative of a large primate. In the event that Biscardi and his team will be able to contain and capturea creature, further scientific study is slated to be coordinated under the supervision of Dr. George W. Gill, Ph.D., a professor of Anthropology at the University of Wyoming. "This is a high stakes, high risk, scientific and commercial expedition", says Biscardi.

SASQUATCH SEEN IN YUKON! July 13, 2005 - Canada's CBC has reported that nine people in the Yukon community of Teslin claim to have seen a large, BIGFOOT-like creature over the weekend. This is the second reported sighting of a HAIRY-HOMINID in the area in about a year. Chucka Choumant and Trent Smarch are two of the people who believe they saw the sasquatch. The men said they heard trees snapping and creaking even though there was no wind at the time. The figure they saw was nearly 9-feet tall and moving fast – too fast for them to keep up even when they were running. The creature left behind some evidence, the men said: a footprint about twice the size of a human's, and a small patch of hair found in the area that has been sent to a conservation officer in Whitehorse. Those who say they saw the creature would like the sample to undergo DNA testing.

HEAVENLY LAKE MONSTER CAPTURED ON VIDEO! July 11, 2005 - China Daily has reported that 52-year-old Zheng Changchun and his daughter and son-in-law claim to have seen, photographed and videotaped the Tianchi Lake monster (or what some locals refer to as the HEAVENLY LAKE MONSTER) in the Changbai Mountain of China. Zheng, and avid videographer, saw the strange, black object emerging from the water and wasted no time in recording the incident. "I was so excited and shouted loudly that there was a monster in the lake," said Zheng. "I would say what we saw above water was about the size of the head of an adult ox, but I did notice that every time it was above water, there were huge ripples in the water, suggesting the rest of it was enormous." Legends about the monster hidden in this extraordinarily deep lake go back more than a century.

UNIDENTIFIED FISH SEEN IN NEW YORK LAKE! July 10, 2005 - The Post-Standard has reported that upstate New York's Skaneateles Lake may be harboring an as yet unidentified species of sturgeon. Accounts of this prehistoric fish have been filtering in to local press sources ever since fishing guide Dick Withey's encounter with a giant fish with a "funky-looking" head was published in early July. If accurate, these sightings are remarkable because the scientific literature contains no mention of lake sturgeon in the coldest and purest of the Finger Lakes. As of yet no connection has been made between these creatures and the bizarre, ichthyological anomaly known as the MAY'S POINT MYSTERY FISH, which allegedly dwells in a tributary of the nearby Cayuga Lake. Cayuga is also said to be the home of a scaly, serpentine beast named OLD GREENY.

NEW SPECIES OF DOLPHIN DISCOVERED DOWN UNDER! July 05, 2005 - Australia News has reported that a new species of dolphin has been found living in the waters of the Great Barrier Reef. July 05, 2005 - The BBC has reported that the insurance company NIG is providing £1,000,000 coverage for triathlon competitors from from the UK, France, South Africa, Italy and Germany in case they are injured by the LOCH NESS MONSTER during a race in Urquhart Bay. The policy will cover the more than 100 athletes taking part in the VisitScotland Adventure Triathlon on July 23. "These competitors will all be very psyched up and very driven so there's going to be a lot of noise and a lot of splashing going on - just the sort of thing that might annoy a prehistoric lake monster," claimed Nova director David Hart. "Or even worse, it might give it an appetite."

COLOSSAL CATFISH CAUGHT IN THAILAND! July 02, 2005 - CNN has reported that villagers from Chiang Khonga, located in nothern Thailand's remote Chiang Rai province, have caught and photographed a colossal 646 lbs. catfish, which wildlife conservation groups claim may have been the largest freshwater fish on the planet. When wildlife officials caught wind of the catch they urged the villagers to release the adult male so that it could spawn, but it later died and was eaten. The Mekong giant catfish, which shares the title of largest freshwater fish with a close relative, the dog-eating catfish, was listed as critically endangered in 2003 after research showed its numbers had fallen by at least 80 percent over the past 13 years. "An astonishing find," said researcher Zeb Hogan. "By acting now, we can save animals like the Mekong giant catfish from extinction."

These legendary predators, which are said to be able to spit corrosive yellow saliva and generate blasts of electricity powerful enough to kill a grown camel, have often associated with the European LINDWORMS. Although the team turned up no tangible evidence of the existence of these creatures, they claim to have spoken with numerous eyewitnesses. "We interviewed dozens of witnesses. All the reports were consistent; a 2ft long, reddish brown, salami-shaped creature covered in scales," said Freeman. "Most of the witnesses were scared of the creature because it was said to spit deadly poison."

June 18, 2005 - National Geographic has published an article speculating that the Lakota Indian tales of great wars waged between aquatic and airborne monsters may have been inspired by gigantic fossilized dinosaur bones, which litter the region known as the Badlands. Adrienne Mayor is an author and independent scholar in Princeton, New Jersey. She says the "Water Monsters of the Badlands" legend was inspired in part by these fossils, which the Lakota undoubtedly encountered in their travels. "It would have been logical and very rational to imagine these great sky and water creatures might have been enemies, and the reason they're all dead is they had battled," Mayor said.

BIGFOOT BELIEVERS UNITE! May 26, 2005 - Komo News discusses the existence of BIGFOOT with researcher and Sasquatch Research Conference host Jason Valenti and hominoid researcher Lloyd Pye: "I have no doubt that they're out there, and they're out there in reasonably large numbers," claimed Pye.

U.S. ALLIGATORS MAY BE MIGRATING NORTH! May 24, 2005 - M&C Science and Nature has reported that there are a growing number of reports concerning wild alligators in the waters of northern Virginia and Maryland. Wildlife officials told The Washington Times a 4-foot-long alligator was killed near Chesapeake, Va., and a 3-foot gator was spotted in a reservoir near Richmond, Va. Creatures measuring 8 inches and 13 inches have been caught by children in western Maryland. Michigan State zoology Professor Jim Harding told the newspaper there is a historical record of alligators living in southern Virginia and they could adapt to the colder climate of the Washington area.

NEW MONKEY SPECIES DISCOVERED IN AFRICA! May 24, 2005 - The New Scientist has reported that a new monkey species has been found in the highland forests of Tanzania. This is the first new African monkey to be found in more than 20 years. It also instantly becomes one of the rarest and most critically endangered primates on Earth. Researchers of the Wildlife Conservation Societys southern highlands conservation program in Tanzania first heard of the new monkey in stories told by local villagers. They began searching immediately, but it took them nearly a year to get a clear look at the shy, tree-dwelling creature. This discovery further illustrates the reliability of native accounts in the pursuit of animals as yet unknown to science.

CHINESE UNDER SEIGE BY UNKNOWN LARVAE! May 24, 2005 - The People's Daily Online has reported that citizens of Chengdu, in China's Sichuan Province, are under assault by throngs of unidentified, hairy, brown, larvae. Although the caterpillar-like creatures are apparently not feeding on flowers, grass or trees in the immediate area, they are impregnable, numbering in the tens of thousands, clustering in areas like a giant throng of fuzzy mush. Pesticides have proven to be ineffective against the attacking horde. Residents have issued an appeal for help, releasing their telephone number (028) 8767 3698 to ask for experts from outside the city to help identify the nasty creatures.

DESPERATELY SEEKING SASQUATCH! May 22, 2005 - The Skagit Valley Herald has published an article chronicling the continued pursuit of BIGFOOT, in the remote, mountainous regions of eastern Skagit County, Washington.

MONSTEROUS LOCH NESS TOOTH STOLEN! May 17, 2005 - Emedia Wire has reported that two American college students claim to have recovered the tooth of an immense creature lodged in the ribcage of a half-eaten deer carcass found on Loch Ness. Sadly, moments after they made their discovery, the tooth, along with a video tape and two rolls of film, were confiscated by a man claiming to be a water bailiff. After a thorough examination of photos and video footage taken by the two men, forensics expert Bill McDonald has concluded that the film is undoctored. "The discovery of the shed relic (tooth) however is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," claimed McDonald. "We could be on the cusp of a great discovery and the fact that local authorities in the Scottish Highlands are refusing to cooperate with this investigation is reprehensible." McDonald and the two students have offered a $100,000 reward for any information leading to the recovery of the tooth.

BELIEF IN POPO BAWA STILL STRONG! May 16, 2005 - Reuters UK has published an article chronicling the persistent horror that Tanzanias Zanzibar spice islanders have for the bizarre, bat winged, sex-crazed cyclops know as the Popo Bawa. Although most foreigners dismiss these tales as nothing more than native superstitions, those who claim to have been attacked by the creature sing a different tune: "We heard a rustling on the roof," said Asha Saleh of Machomanne, recalling her attack some 35 years ago. "I felt someone fondling me. I felt very cold. I felt weak. I couldn't call out for help to my husband who was lying asleep beside me. Popo Bawa is strong, He really presses down on you. And it took such a long time: One hour! Eventually I lost consciousness. And I was one of many who were attacked."

EVOLUTIONARY OFFSHOOT DISCOVERED IN LAOS! May 16, 2005 - The Washington Post has reported that Wildlife Conservation Society scientist Robert J. Timmins, while browsing in a Laotian hunter's market, stumbled across a creature that turned out to represent an entirely new family of wildlife, which diverged from other rodents millions of years ago. Timmins purchased the carcass for a few pennies, bringing the first kha-nyou (as it is known in Laos) into the scope of modern science. "It was for sale on a table next to some vegetables. I knew immediately it was something I had never seen before," said Timmins. Skeptics might say that if we are still discovering such amazing new animals, why are people worried about wildlife loss? But of course it is an indication of how little we know, and a window onto what we could be losing without ever knowing."

COELACANTH DIVE SETS NEW RECORD! May 10, 2005 - IOL has reported that remotely operated vehicle (ROV) has been used for the first time to film coelacanths as part of research on the prehistoric fish in the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The latest coelacanth expedition, which ended on Sunday, filmed a record eight coelacanths during one dive. The success of trial tests for the ROV suggests the intriguing possibility that other rare or unknown undersea denizens may be brought to light via this technology. "Some of the coelacanths have been previously sighted, but preliminary results suggest that some are new animals that will increase the known numbers of these prehistoric fish in the wetlands park," said Marine scientist Jean Harris.

NEW MAMMAL DISCOVERED IN BORNEO! May 09, 2005 - The Independent has reported that scientists believe they have found a wholly new species of mammal deep in the heart of one of the richest and most endangered wildlife areas on earth. The animal - which was caught on an automatic infra-red camera, set up in the forest of the Kayam Menterong National Park - is foxy red all over, with no white markings, and a bushy tail. It has slightly extended back legs, suggesting that it may spend part of its time up trees. Last week WWF reported that 361 entirely new species - 260 insects, 50 plants, 30 freshwater fish, seven frogs, six lizards, five crabs, two snakes and a toad - have been discovered over the past decade, a rate of three a month.

SEARCH IS ON FOR MONGOLIAN DEATH WORM! May 08, 2005 - Mongabay has reported that a group of English scientists are spending a month in the Gobi desert in search of the Mongolian Death Worm, a fabled creature often associated with the European LINDWORMS, which is said to lurk in the sands of the hostile region. Approximately five feet long, this creature is known to the locals as Allghoi khorkhoi. Mongolian nomads claim that it can spit corrosive yellow saliva that acts like acid and that they have the ability to generate blasts of electricity powerful enough to kill a full grown camel. I dont think that its a worm at all. True worms need moisture, claimed expedition leader Richard Freeman. I think it is a limbless, burrowing reptile, probably a giant member of a group of reptiles known as amphisbaenas or worm lizards.

THE BEAST OF GREEN DRIVE STILL LOOSE! May 07, 2005 - The Daily Mail has reported that more sightings of the Beast of Green Drive have come in. The creature has been described as being approximately as tall as a collie dog, with huge, rabbit-like ears, a large mouth and a lolloping gait. Sandra Sturrock, who was walking her dog when she came face-to-face with the beast, said: "I caught sight of something large ahead of us. It was like a large collie, light in color with large sticking-up ears. It was watching me and my dog. A spokesman claimed that experts at the Chester Zoo were baffled after being shown the drawing of the Beast: "It does not look like any mammal currently alive. It looks more like a mythical beast to us." Artist Sam Shearon has created a composite drawing of the beast based on the over 20 eyewitness reports.

FORMER COP RECOUNTS LAKE MONSTER SIGHTING! May 03, 2005 - The L.A. Times has published an article recounting former law enforcement officer Mickey Daniels' encounter with the LAKE MONSTER known as TAHOE TESSIE. Daniels, who has been fishing on Lake Tahoe since 1959, told of his two decade old sighting of what he perceived to be an "enormous" headed, aquatic animal pushing its way through the water. This report comes hot on the heels of a sighting reported in last week to the Tahoe Daily Tribune by Ron Talmage and Beth Douglas.

BIZARRE BEAST SPOTTED NEAR GREEN DRIVE! May 01, 2005 - Lytham Today has reported that a strange creature the size of a Labrador, but resembling a rabbit, has been seen along England's Green Drive in Lytham. One woman who saw the creature - but didn't want to be named - said: "I was walking through the drive when I saw it in the fields alongside. I have no idea what it was, but I could tell it was the size of a Labrador, but looked more like a hare. It can't have been either - it was surreal." A spokeswoman for Lytham police said: "We have checked local zoos and farms, but nothing seems to be missing. It is very bizarre. We have handed it over to the RSPCA to investigate." At least three other witnesses have allegedly come forward.

EXTINCT WOODPECKER DISCOVERED IN ARKANSAS! April 30, 2005 - The BBC has reported that Gene Sparling, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, saw an ivory-billed woodpecker while kayaking in a reserve in Big Woods. The bird looked so unusual that Sparling felt obliged to contact Cornell University's Living Bird magazine. After being interviewed by a team of experts, John Fitzpatrick, of Cornell University, headed the search party, which included Dr. Tim Gallagher. Within a month, Dr. Gallagher had seen the woodpecker for himself, ending once and for all the notion that the creature had been extinct since the 1920s. Others claim to have seen the bird in Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp, which is also the alleged home of a notorious SWAMP MONSTER. "This provides hope for [other] species classified as potentially extinct," said Stuart Butchart, of BirdLife International.

CASPIAN FISH MAN GETS MORE PRESS! April 30, 2005 - Ananova has published yet another article on the green haired, finned, web fingered fish man of the Caspian Sea. This amphibious human-like, beast is also known as the Runan-shah or "the master of the sea and rivers."

TAHOE TESSIE ALIVE AND WELL! April 29, 2005 - The Tahoe Daily Tribune has reported that Ron Talmage and Beth Douglas, of Sacramento, claim to have seen a dark object, which they believed to be TAHOE TESSIE, undulating at the lake's surface about 100 yards off Tahoe Park Beach. This serpentine reptile has allegedly haunted Tahoe's Paiute Indian tribes for centuries, and even famed French oceanographer, Jacques Cousteau, was said to have had a close encounter with this beast. Anonymous sources credit Cousteau as saying, quote: "The world wasn't ready for what was down there!"

MANITOBA MAN SHOOTS VIDEO OF SASQUATCH! April 19, 2005 - Canadian ABC affiliate WWTI News has reported that locals have been flocking to Georgina Henry's home in Norway House, Manitoba to watch nearly three minutes of video shot be her son, Bobby Clarke of an alleged HAIRY HOMINID. The video was shot just after dawn Saturday morning on the banks of the Nelson River. Clarke says he was on duty at his job as a car ferry operator when he saw a "big, black figure" on the opposite bank, about 300 meters away. According to Clarke, he wasted no time in grabbing his video camera and filming the "massive" creature. "It's pictures of Bigfoot," claimed Henry. "It's black and it's big. Oh god, it's huge, seven or eight feet high... We can see him walking, and then turning to look at him (Clarke).

SOUTHERN CRYPTO CONFERENCE COMING SOON! April 17, 2005 - Emedia Wire has announced that The Southern Crypto Conference will be held Saturday June 18, at the Lone Star Expo Center in Conroe, Texas. The event will feature seminars and clinics on subjects ranging from Bigfoot research to an underwater investigation of giant catfish and other anomalous animals led by leading investigators. Event organizer, cryptozoologist and founder of the American Primate Conservation Alliance (APCA), CHESTER MOORE will be leading the Giant Catfish Tour as well as speaking on his search for giant catfish in reservoirs throughout the American South, including exclusive photos and video footage from his dive expeditions. Everyone has heard the stories of giant catfish in reservoirs. I doubt they are the size of Volkswagens like some say but I do believe there are some huge fish out there perfectly capable of spooking divers and I am going underwater to look for them, Moore said.

BLACK PANTHER PHOTOGRAPHED IN WALES! April 16, 2005 - The Mirror has reported that 43-year-old, Norman Evans claims to have come face to face with a huge, panther-like cat in Cwmbran, South Wales... and he has the photos to prove it! According to Evans he was in the forest above Henllys village looking for a location to take photos of model Hayley Evans, when he spotted the animal, which was devouring a pigeon. He claimed that he snapped some photos, all the while fearing for his life. "I couldn't believe my eyes. I was in utter shock," said Evans. "It looked like a black panther from straight out of the jungle book." Hayley Evans expressed her concern for the region's juvenile population: "It's scary to think a panther's wandering around in an area where kids play." Cwmbran police confirmed there have been reports of ALIEN BIG CATS roaming the area "over the last couple of years".

BIZARRE CREATURE STILL LIVING IN MADAGASCAR! April 15, 2005 - The Guardian Limited has reported that Madagascar's Aye-Aye, an animal believed to be so ugly that in its native jungle superstitious villagers often beat it to death, has now become the pride and joy of Bristol Zoo. These extraordinary nocturnal creatures are so rarely seen that they were once thought to have become extinct. Numbers are uncertain and they are listed in the international "red book" of endangered species. "They do look like gremlins, and at first sight it is hard to believe they are real," said Caroline Brown, senior keeper of small mammals at the zoo's Twilight World. "Initially we were wary of getting too attached to Kintana but when he comes ... across the cage in welcome and sits in your hand it is very hard not to."

JAPANESE SCIENTISTS TO RESSURECT THE MAMMOTH! April 10, 2005 - National Geographic has reported that a team of Japanese genetic scientists intend to bring woolly mammoths back to life and create a Jurassic Park-style refuge for resurrected species. Their plan is to retrieve sperm from a mammoth frozen in tundra, use it to impregnate an elephant, and then raise the offspring in a safari park in the Siberian wild. "If we create a mammoth, we will know much more about these animals, their history, and why they went extinct," said Kazufumi Goto, head scientist at the Mammoth Creation Project. Anatoly Lozhkin, an Ice Age expert at the Northeast Interdisciplinary Scientific Research Institute in Russia, disagreed with the assessment: "Even if the cloning experiment is successful, they are not reconstructing the past but rather creating a new mammoth-like creature," insisted Lozhkin. "Scientists are always able to learn from every experiment, but I am not sure that cloning a mammoth will help us significantly move forward our understanding of the animal or the conditions under which it lived."

VAMPIRE CATFISH DISCOVERED IN THE AMAZON! April 05, 2005 - The Observer has reported that British and Brazilian scientists, whose expedition was jointly funded by the BBC and The Discovery Channel, have discovered a tiny aquatic vampire. Swollen with blood that it had sucked from the gills of larger Amazon fish, the little catfish is a fairly gruesome addition to scientific knowledge. Scientists hope that by studying the anti-coagulants these "vampire fish" use to digest the blood they drink, they might be able to make headway with medical research into heart disease and blood disorders. Viewers are going to be given the opportunity to name this new fish, but Andrew Poleszek, executive secretary of the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature, has his own favorite: "As for the names suggested for this little blood-sucking catfish, they are rather good," said Poleszek. "I like Paracanthopoma vampyra. It sums the fish up rather nicely."

WORLD IN THE THROES OF A CRYPTO-EXPLOSION! April 05, 2005 - In the same article as above, The Observer explains why scientists are discovering so many new species. According to Mario de Pinna, director of the Zoological Museum in So Paulo, discoveries of new animals are rocketing, not just in the Amazon but across the world: "We are finding new species at an unprecedented rate for the simple reason there are more specialist scientists out looking for them," claimed Pinna. "However, there is another and rather ironic cause for this zoological explosion. We are getting to these remote places to find these creatures because more and more land that surrounds their habitats is being destroyed or developed." Andrew Polaszek, added: "It is really astonishing. The world may seem to get smaller, but we are finding more and more new animals every year. Last year, we reached a record of almost 20,000, from beetles to dolphins, and from apes to birds." Steve Greenwood, the director of Amazon Abyss, agreed with the assessment: "This discovery of ours is the tip of the iceberg. The number of things that are waiting out there to be found underwater is incredible."

CASPIAN FISH-MAN GIVES RISE TO OLD LEGENDS! March 29, 2005 - India's Kerala Next has published a follow-up report on the Caspian Sea's now infamous, amphibious human-like, beast known as the Runan-shah or "the master of the sea and rivers". Although these creatures have yet to garner worldwide recognition, legends of aquatic-humanoids date back to both Herodotus and Plato, who believed that original human beings were amphibious. In a book of collected scientific articles titled "The Universe and Humankind" that was published in St. Petersburg in 1905, there is a story of "marine female" caught in the Caribbean. According to the article this book also details accounts about dead bodies of the amphibious humans washed ashore in the Azores in 1876. Their descriptions largely correspond with the reported description of Runan-shah.

BOUNTY GROWS ON TASMANIAN TIGER! March 26, 2005 - Australia's The World News has reported that yet another reward has been offered for the proof of continued existence of the mysterious carnivorous marsupial, known as the Thylacine. This offer has pushed the total reward to $3 million. The response of would-be trackers has alarmed the Australian authorities, who fear for the lives off both the hunters and other wildlife and who claim that permits would be required, and that they won't be handing them out to just anyone. The reward clearly specifies that it has to be legally done, and I cant see how it can be legally done without a permit, and we wont be issuing permits for people to attempt to catch thylacine just to satisfy public curiosity, wildlife biologist Nick Mooney. Bounty hunters have until June 30 to snare themselves a tiger.

NEW JERSEY BEAST ACCUSED OF HORSE MUTILATION! March 25, 2005 - The Star-Ledger has reported that New Jersey's wildlife management officials may have to go toe-to-toe with a vicious BIGFOOT-like creature prowling the woods of Sussex County. The report comes on the heels of the discovery of a mauled and partially-eaten carcass of 250-pound miniature horse, which was found at the end of a bloody trail leading from its pen in the township of Andover. While many authorities believe that a black bear is the culprit, Fish and Game Council Member Jack Schrier has speculated that a species the notoriously vicious East coast HAIRY-HOMINID may, in fact, be responsible for the killing.

FISH-MAN MAKES CAMEO IN CASPIAN SEA! March 25, 2005 - The ever suspect Pravda has reported that residents of the small fishing villages bordering the Caspian shores in Iran and Azerbaijan say that they have come face-to-face with a hairy, finned, dolphin beaked, man-like beast. The creature, which has been dubbed the "man of the sea" or "the master of the sea and rivers", was reported to be swimming amidst huge shoals of fish. The Captain of an Azeri trawler, Gafar Gasanof, reported his encounter to Iranian newspaper Zindagi: "That creature was swimming parallel course near the boat for a long time," claimed Gasanof. "At the beginning we thought it was a big fish, but then we spotted hair on the head of the monster and his fins looked pretty strange... the front part of his body was equipped with arms!"

BOUNTY HAS BEEN OFFERED FOR A LIVE THYLACINE! March 23, 2005 - National Nine News has reported that The Bulletin magazine has offered a $1.25 million reward for conclusive proof of the continued existence of the Thylacine or, as it is better known, the Tasmanian Tiger. Although most scientists believe that the last of the species died in captivity in 1936, there have been more than 4,000 reported sightings of the creature since that date. The Bulletin has stipulated that the creature will need to be captured alive to qualify for the hefty prize. We know the myth is out there, says Gary Linnell, editor-in-chief of The Bulletin. Yet not one solid shred of evidence not a bone, a hair, much less a body has ever been put forward to prove that the Thylacine is the greatest escape artist in the animal kingdom... If the tiger has somehow managed to cling to survival, proving its existence would be one of the greatest scientific stories of the century.

LONDON MAN ATTACKED BY UNKNOWN FELID! March 22, 2005 - Yahoo News has reported that a large, predatory feline is feared to be on the loose in one of London's suburbs after a man was attacked in his own garden. Police were called to a house in Sydenham Park in the early hours of Tuesday morning after the man saw a cat-like creature about the size of a Labrador dog roaming in his garden. The man went out to investigate and was attacked by the creature, later requiring treatment by an ambulance crew. Initially dismissed by scientists as unlikely, evidence from footprints and droppings has led many to conclude that a number of ALIEN BIG CATS are roaming the country. "We are advising the local public if they see the animal, do not approach it and to report it to police using (the emergency number) and to keep pets indoors," a police spokesman said.

WASHINGTON STATE RIFE WITH BIGFOOT SIGHTINGS! March 21, 2005 - The Register Guard has published an article detailing the work of 43 year-old Wenatchee Washington resident and Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization investigator, Paul Graves. The article credits the internet for the recent increase of BIGFOOT awareness and claims that 338 sightings have been reported in Washington State, making that area the most active HAIRY-HOMINID region in the United States. No less than 46 of the reports have come from Skamania County, near Mount St. Helens, which is also the home of Ape Cave, so-named after its most notorious inhabitants.

AUSTRALIAN RIVER REVEALS NEW FISH SPECIES! March 19, 2005 - ABC News has reported that biologists in Queensland have discovered four new species of fish believed to be unknown to science. The Queensland Department of Fisheries team spent several weeks looking at the freshwater catchments of rivers that flow into the Gulf of Carpentaria in the north of the state. Among their haul of 53 freshwater fish species were four species thought to be previously unclassified. "At least four of them we think haven't been described before," fisheries biologist Alf Hogan said. "We only did this survey in the dry season. I suspect there would be maybe another 10 or so species that move in there in the wet season."

ANOTHER MYSTERY ANIMAL PHOTOGRAPHED! March 18, 2005 - North Carolina's News-Record has reported that Randolph County resident, Cynthia Pell, snapped a picture through her kitchen window about three weeks ago of a bizarre, canine-like creature, which she believes resembles a photo taken on May 20, 2004, by her neighbor Bill Kurdian. Pell speculates that the animal that she photographed may be the first creature's mate, which Kurdian and his wife claim to have seen numerous times. "It was reddish-brown with short hair. It had a long, fox-like snout and large, pointed ears, like a cat's, and a long, almost hairless, cat-like tail," claimed Kurdian. Several animal experts, including animal curators at the North Carolina Zoo and elsewhere, examined Kurdian's photo, but were unable to conclusively identify the creature.

FROZEN SEA HARBORS HOPE OF LIFE ON MARS! March 17, 2005 - The Times has reported that the strongest evidence to date that life could exist on Mars has been discovered by scientists, in the form of a sea of ice near the planets equator. The ice sheet, which measures about 560 miles by 500 miles, was detected by the European Mars Express spacecraft and appears to have bubbled up from a subterranean aquatic layer, which researchers believe may harbor the right conditions for primitive microscopic creatures to have evolved. If there are organisms, we will be looking at the organisms themselves, rather than fossils," claimed one of the leaders of the high-resolution stereo camera team that made the discovery, John Murray. I would never have thought it possible before that life could exist today, and now I believe it is very possible.

INDIA'S "LIZARD GIRL" DISMISSED AS RUMOR! March 17, 2005 - The Times of India has reported that thousands of curiosity seekers have turned up at the J.J. Hospital at Byculla in order to bear witness to the mysterious "Lizard Girl", who was allegedly admitted after her mother watched her transform into a half-reptilian monstrosity. Denials by harried doctors that any such patient had been admitted proved futile as the mob continued to push its way in, scanning each ward and almost breaking into the intensive care unit for heart patients. Although this account has been dismissed as mass-hysteria, sightings of humanoid LIZARD MEN have reported throughout the globe, the most famous of these being the notorious SOUTH CAROLINA LIZARD MAN.

SPECIES LIST REACHES HALF-MILLION AND COUNTING! March 16, 2005 - Nature has reported that an online catalogue of all known life on Earth now has half a million species in its freely available database. The Catalogue of Life Programme began in 2001 as a collaboration between Species 2000 and the Integrated Taxonomic Information System in Washington DC. Since then, many universities and natural history institutions have opened up their dusty card catalogues of species to contribute to the digital resource. "The Catalogue of Life is just like the yellow pages for species," explains Paul Kirk, an expert in fungi at CABI Bioscience. Biologists estimate that about 1.75 million species, from bacteria to blue whales, have already been identified on Earth. But there may be anywhere between 3 million and 12 million more yet to be discovered. Encouraging words indeed for crypto-investigators worldwide!

NEW SHRIMP SPECIES DISCOVERED IN IDAHO! March 16, 2005 - The Ledger-Enquirer has reported that biologists with the Idaho National Guard have discovered a new species of fairy shrimp living in the oft-dry lake beds of Idaho's desert. Though they look delicate enough to match their name, they are hardy enough to survive, unhatched, for years in the baking heat of summer and the frozen tundra of winter until enough rain falls and the pools return. Once they awaken they live a few frenzied weeks, mating and leaving behind tiny cyst-like offspring, and die. "This is a large, predatory fairy shrimp," said biologist Dana Quinney during a press conference announcing this amazing discovery. "This guy is about three inches long. That is huge for a fairy shrimp... This one is really, really, really different from all the other species in the world."

THE SEARCH FOR PROOF OF PYGMY ELEPHANTS! March 11, 2005 - The Indian Express has reported that ecologists of the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore and officials of the Forest Department are set to trek the states forests in search of the "Ikallaana", also known as the mythical dwarf elephant. Aimed at conclusively confirming or denying the presence of this species, this expedition comes of the heels of an encounter chronicled by wildlife photographer Sali Palode and `Kani' tribesman Mannan, who claimed to have encountered and photographed a small herd of five-foot-tall elephants in Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary last January. As recently as in September 2003, scientists had come out with DNA evidence establishing that the small elephants found in the forests of Borneo belong to a new subspecies with characteristics quite different from their cousins found elsewhere in Asia.

ANOTHER CHUPACABRA PHOTOGRAPHED IN TEXAS! March 10, 2005 - ABC affiliate KLTV has reported that an anonymous Harrison County resident snapped a photo of a bizarre, canine-like creature, which some have compared to the prototypical image of the Chupacabra. Like the other recent close-encounters with strange, predatory quadrupeds in Elmendorf and Lufkin, this image has been surrounded by a maelstrom of controversy since its release. "Looks like a hyena or a greyhound," said Student Lyndon Gilford. "A messed up dog, oh a horrible dog,"

RARE COUGAR SPOTTED IN MICHIGAN! March 09, 2005 - The Detroit Free Press has reported that authorities in Lenawee County have launch search for a large cougar after Jeff and Tracy Hedrick saw the big cat heading into their barn, only a few feet from their children's swing set on February 27. Tracy Hedrick said her 3-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter were playing on the swing set just the day before. Jeff Hedrick managed to snap two pictures of the feral cat before it disappeared into the woods. For years, the state Department of Natural Resources has insisted that the last cougar was killed in the early 1900s, but after a number of reported sightings, the department speculates that the cougars are exotic pets that have been released and their offspring, Meadows said.

BUILDING THE BETTER MOUSE! March 08, 2005 - The Telegraph has reported that a group of university researchers in California's Silicon Valley is preparing to create a mouse whose brain will be composed entirely of human cells. Considered by many to be one of the most controversial scientific projects ever conceived, Prof. Irving Weissman, who heads Stanford university's Institute of Cancer/Stem Cell Biology, believes that the mice could produce a breakthrough in understanding how stem cells might lead to a cure for diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. "Biotechnology is becoming dangerously close to raging out of control, claimed Wesley Smith, a consultant for the Centre for Bioethics and Culture. "Scientists are engaging in increasingly macabre experiments that threaten to mutate nature and the human condition."

LEGEND OF MOGOLLON MONSTER STILL LIVES! March 04, 2005 - The Arizona Republic has published an article chronicling the origin of the Southwests own HAIRY-HOMINID, known to locals as the Mogollon Monster. The first known account of this creature was reported by Don Davis, who said he saw the monster during a Boy Scout camping trip near Payson in 1944 or 1945: The creature was huge. Its eyes were deep set and hard to see, but they seemed expressionless. His face seemed pretty much devoid of hair, but there seemed to be hair along the sides of his face. His chest, shoulders, and arms were massive, especially the upper arms; easily upwards of 6 inches in diameter, perhaps much, much more..."

DEBATE RAGES OVER "HOBBIT" DISCOVERY! March 04, 2005 - The Canberra Times has reported that scientists from across the globe are embroiled in the debate as to whether or not the unique, 18,000-year old remains of what appears to be a mini-human, is actually a new species or that of a deformed Homo-erectus. The 36-inch tall, humanoid skeleton was found on the Indonesian island of Flores by a team of scientists from the University of New England and the Indonesian Centre for Archaeology. The enigmatic hominids have been dubbed "hobbits", and have been cited as evidence of a previously unknown human species, an interpretation which has gained broad endorsement through the scientific community. "The discovery of this species has flummoxed the field of anthropology," said Florida State University professor and chair of anthropology Dean Falk. "I believe it equals or surpasses the identification of other ancestors such as the Taung hominin in 1925, which marked the birth of modern paleoanthropology and sparked an ongoing debate on human evolution." read more

MUTANT SIX-LEGGED FROG FOUND IN CHINA! March 03, 2005 - Ananova has reported that this bizarre amphibian was purchased by a restaurant from a market in Guangzhou city, Guangdong province. The frog looks identical to others in the restaurant's tanks, except for two extra legs beneath its jaw. Professors at the Pharmacy College, Jinan University, say gene mutation, chemical pollution or radiation could be responsible... A situation which some researchers have compared to Syracuse, New York's hyper contaminated Onondaga Lake, which is said to harbor its very own amphibious anomaly OGGIE.

LAKE WASHINGTON MONSTER REARS ITS HEAD! March 01, 2005 - Seattle P.I. has reported that police and wildlife officials from Medina and Mercer Island have been receiving accounts of a bizarre, reptilian creature lurking in the murky depths of Lake Washington. On Wednesday two reports came in to Medina police describing what eyewitnesses believed to be "the head of an alligator" near the docks in Lake Washington's Fairweather Bay, but tales of monstrous, horned serpents actually date back to ancient Native American legends. Sgt. Kim Chandler from the state Department of Fish and Wildlife's regional office in Mill Creek is skeptical about this animal's allegedly reptilian origins: "Know how cold that lake is right now? Probably something like 47 degrees, which means an animal like that would last for, oh, maybe 20 minutes," claimed Chandler. "But even if it was what somebody thought it was, it won't be eating every Cub Scout in the neighborhood."

MYSTERY SQUID DISCOVERED OFF FLORIDA COAST! February 28, 2005 - Florida's WFTV has reported that scientists from the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, have discovered a never before seen, deep-sea species of squid. The amazing discovery was made just minutes after the team began to utilize an experimental infrared camera. The Eye-in-the-Sea video system, which can sit on the ocean bottom for up to 24 hours, was used for the first time during the "Deep Scope" expedition into the Gulf of Mexico last August. Cephalopod biologist Michael Vecchione, claimed that he was unable to identify the squid after viewing the seven-second video and consulting with other experts. "The thing to appreciate is something this large to be totally unknown is phenomenal and just such an obvious indication of how little we understand about what's in our oceans," claimed expedition co-leader Edith Widder.

THYLACINE CAPTURED ON FILM? February 27, 2005 - The Sunday Tasmanian has reported that an anonymous German tourist has taken several photographs of what appears to be a THYLACINE, or as it is also known, a Tasmanian tiger. The photographer's brother showed the digital images, which were allegedly taken in the Lake St. Clair region, to staff at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and Parks and Wildlife Service officers. Museum representative could neither confirm nor deny the veracity of the images in question. "All I can say is that the German was here last week," said museum marketing manager Peter West. "He was the brother of a visitor who took the photographs. There were images of a tiger in several of them. But the museum is not in a position to confirm whether they really are of a tiger." read more.

THE HUNT IS ON FOR A MONSTEROUS EEL! February 27, 2005 - The Herald Sun has reported that about 100 anglers from all over Australia have descended on Tommy Finn's Trout Farm in Warburton, in an effort to catch what could be the world's largest eel. The reward for catching the aquatic anomaly has doubled to $2000 after the local Alpine Retreat hotel matched the trout farm's offer of $1000. Scores of people have been paying the $35-a-head fee all week to try to catch the monster, which is claimed to be approximately 14-feet in length and weigh almost 100 lbs. Locals speculate that the colossal creature may have wriggled into the farm's ponds after recent storms. If caught, Melbourne Aquarium will be called to sedate the eel and remove the hooks. The plan was to have the aquarium house the eel, but others have suggested that it should stay at the farm in a designated tank.

BIGFOOT HUNTER STALKS VIRGINIA'S FORESTS! February 22, 2005 - Virginia's Pilot Online has published an in depth article about 46-year-old William Dranginis, who, after a close encounter with a BIGFOOT-like creature in the deep, dark woods of Culpeper County, has founded the "Virginia Bigfoot Research Organization" in 2001. Dranginis investigates these animals through the use of a 24-foot camper, once used as a mobile veterinary clinic, now outfitted with an arsenal of high-tech spy gear and now loaded with high-tech surveillance gear, which he refers to as a mobile Bigfoot Primate Research Lab. At first, I just wanted to look this creature in the eye, to see what it was, then get back to my life, Dranginis said. But after a while, it became something I had to prove not just for me, but for everyone else whos seen it.

PLAN TO CLONE THYLACINE HALTED! February 15, 2005 - ABC has reported that the much publicized attempt to clone Australia's Tasmanian tiger back from extinction has been scrapped. According to Australian Museum director Frank Howarth, the quality of the DNA is simply too poor to work with. He claimed that while the museum has sufficient expertise to try to construct a DNA library it lacks the facilities and skill to conduct "further stages requiring cell culture". The ambitious project to clone the thylacine from a preserved pup made headlines around the world when it was launched in 1999 by the museum's then director Professor Mike Archer. "I and other colleagues remain interested in the project and I don't think that it will simply die because the museum can't proceed," said Archer. "The technology to make it happen is improving all the time. And I believe science has a duty to continue to assemble the building blocks that will be needed to do it."

CHUPACABRA CORPSE FOUND IN NEW MEXICO! February 14, 2005 - KOBTV's NEWS 4 has reported that Robert Wheeler claims to be in possession of the corpse of a small, gargoyle-like creature, which some have likened to the notorious CHUPACABRA. It was found out on the West Mesa, says Wheeler. A friend of mine was out there shooting and kicked it out of the dirt. Wheeler delivered the carcass to a New Mexico Game and Fish office, where Eyewitness News 4 shot video and recorded responses from people encountering the corpse for the first time. It looks like a gargoyle said Steve Garcia. It has these sponge-like lips. That having been said, most experts agree that the unusual carcass in likely to be revealed as a "Jenny Haniver", which is often contructed from the corpse of a skate or ray.

PENN STATE STUDENTS DISCUSS BIGFOOT! February 11, 2005 - The Digital Collegian has published an article about the Penn State Bigfoot Society, which consists on approximately thirty member ranging from those who firmly believe to those who are merely intrigued by the possible existence of BIGFOOT. "The fact that there's so many people out there that are obsessed with it is kind of interesting in itself from a social stand point," said Penn State Geography Research Assistant John Sakulich. "Most of the Bigfoot organizations that are online are not affiliated with any university. So, we thought that was kind of a piece that was lacking."

HOOP SNAKE SIGHTING ROLLS IN! February 10, 2005 - The Houston Chronicle has reported that Joyce Denham has reported spying a Hoop Snake rolling along the desert in Langtry, which is upstream from Del Rio on the Rio Grande. Although most scholars believe that the Hoop Snake is nothing more than a product of the rich tapestry of 19th century American folklore - much like the JACKALOPE - there are some who have speculated that these legends may well represent genuine biological anomalies, which once dotted the western prairies of North America.

RECORD BREAKING "HOG-KONG" SHOT IN FLORIDA! February 08, 2005 - The Florida Times-Union has reported that a 1,140-pound wild hog was shot and killed this past August by Larry Earley at his 22-acre farm near Leesburg in the rural Florida community of Okahumpka. This immense beast easily outweighed the now legendary, 12-foot long, 1,000 pound "Hogzilla" carcass, which was killed last June at River Oak Plantation in Alapaha, Georgia, by an employee of the hunting preserve. Early claimed that he had no idea just how large this animal was when he first approached it: "He grunted real hard and turned and started coming at me," Earley recalled. "I backed up and tried to keep the crosshairs on him, but he made about three jumps and fell over sideways about 10 feet from me. I didn't realize he was that big or I would have gotten a different gun."

VAMPIRE BATS KILL ELEVEN KIDS! February 06, 2005 - Reuters has reported that eleven children from Amazon Indian tribes have died in Peru's remote northern jungle after being bitten by bloodthirsty vampire bats. The attacks have sent some locals in the Condorcanqui province fleeing their homes, but health officials said the outbreak was now under control. Vampire bats, which are found exclusively in Latin America, subsist on blood alone, and only turn to humans when animals are unavailable. Curiously, they often develop a taste for a particular person's blood. "Of course people are scared. They're abandoning their homes, temporarily, to go deeper into the jungle," said Shapiom Noningo, vice president of the Inter-Ethnic Association of the Peruvian Jungle.

DEEP SEA TEEMING WITH LIFE! February 05, 2005 - The BBC as well as the Globe and Mail have reported that Japanese scientitsts from the Institute for Research on Earth Evolution at the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology, have discovered a multitude of small, single-celled organisms in the deepest part of the ocean. Many of these organisms were previously unknown. I am very surprised that so many very simple, soft-shelled foraminifera are dwelling at the deepest point of the world ocean, said researcher Hiroshi Kitazato. It is also exiting that most of the group belong to the oldest branch of foraminifera.

60 MINUTES REVEALS NEW MONKEY SPECIES! February 04, 2005 - CBS news reports on the remarkable discovery of a new species of monkey that had never been seen before. This unique, orange-haired primate was discovered in the lush tropical forest of Madidi, located in the Bolivian Amazon of South America, by British biologist Rob Wallace. Wallace's discovery only lends further credence to the notion that our world is full of unknown primates still waiting to be discovered. "Finding a new species is always a big deal," said Wallace. "Finding a new species of mammal, which many people find more inspirational, is a big deal. And finding a new species of monkey is a huge deal... a dream come true."

ANIMAL PLANET ASKS: ARE DRAGONS REAL? February 02, 2005 - Animal Planet will present a special program on March 20, detailing the controversies surrounding the theory that dragons were not merely mythological beasts, but genuine biological entities, which may have interacted with human beings in the distant past.

MYSTERY BEAST TERRORIZES CHINO HILLS! February 01, 2005 - California's Daily Bulletin has reported that a wild, coyote-like beast has been attacking and killing small animals and pets in the region of Chino Avenue and Peyton Drive in San Bernardino County. Those who have seen the animal say it scaled walls over 6-feet high and attacked their dogs faster than they could scare it away. Over a half dozen residents brought their concerns regarding this animal to the City Council last week. They want the city to catch this bizarre creature so the bloodshed will end. "Typically, coyotes don't attack during the day and jump over five feet," said Clifford Clark, whose dog was killed last month.

ANIMAL - HUMAN HYBRIDS BREED CONTROVERSY! January 27, 2005 - National Geographic has published an article detailing the controversial trend of combining human and animal DNA. Among the cases cited were the Chinese scientists who had successfully fused human cells with rabbit eggs in 2003. The embryos were reportedly the first human-animal CHIMERAS successfully created. Also mentioned was the 2004 case in which researchers at the Mayo Clinic created pigs with human blood flowing through their veins. Although opponents of these experiments are outspoken, many scientists feel that there are clear cut medical advances to be made through this research: "Anybody who puts their own moral guidance in the way of this biomedical science, where they want to impose their will, not just be part of an argument, if that leads to a ban or moratorium, they are stopping research that would save human lives," said Irv Weissman, director of Stanford University's Institute of Cancer/Stem Cell Biology and Medicine.

AMERICAN MONSTERS DOCUMENTARY CLIPS! January 19, 2005 - After a long wait we finally have three, never before seen web clips from our forthcoming documentary on the Honey Island Swamp Monster! Check 'em out here!

THYLACINE AND PANTHER SEARCH LAUNCHED! January 18, 2005 - The Standard has reported that independent researcher Michael Moss, is using what is known as a "deer-cam" to try and get proof that Tasmanian tigers and panthers call Australia's Otway National Park home. The camera, which is triggered by body heat, has been set up in the Birregurra area for about six weeks. So far the only pictures taken have been of fallow deer and wallabies, but Moss remains confident. "Last year around March in the Otways I was contacted by a farming couple who had sightings in their area of a black panther," said Moss. "I'm quietly confident. There's no reason why it won't come into the area again."

REAL FISH USED IN TSUNAMI E-MAIL HOAX! January 17, 2005 - Practical Fishkeeping has announced that an email containing photographs of bizarre-looking deep sea fish, which were allegedly washed up on Thailand's Phuket beach after the tsunami, are actually images of fish collected during a study undertaken in 2003. The email, which comes with the subject line "Phuket Deep Sea Creatures - Found At Seaside After Tsunami", has been circulating rapidly and contains some stunning images of very odd-looking (and real) deep sea fish, which were taken in museum wet laboratories. Some of these images include creatures such as the Stone crab, Prickly Shark and Fangtooth, as well as a pink, flabby, bottom-dwelling angler known as a Coffinfish.

TWO NEW LEMUR SPECIES CONFIRMED! January 14, 2005 - The Omaha World Herald has reported that after more than half a decade of research in the isolated forests of Madagascar, DNA laboratory tests in Omaha have finally confirmed that at least two of the five unique lemurs discovered by veterinarian and nuclear geneticist, Edward Louis, are, in fact, new species. Louis, who spends six to nine months a year in Madagascar doing research, discovered the two newly confirmed species of sportive lemurs living in different types of forest. "The discovery of a new primate species is rare," said Jeff French, a primatologist at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. "Only a handful are reported each decade, and that makes the zoo's findings especially significant."

SCIENTISTS SEARCH FOR LIFE ON TITAN! January 11, 2005 - The New York Times has reported that professor of chemistry at the University of Florida, Dr. Steven A. Benner is one of many researchers anxiously awaiting the results of the Huygens probe's measurements of the chemical composition of Saturn's largest moon, Titan. The probe will parachute into the hazy skies of Titan within days, after a seven-year journey, during which it was strapped to the side of the Cassini Orbiter. Dr. Benner and his colleagues will comb through the data to see whether the moon harbors life, but will not limit their search to familiar life forms, hoping that they will discover creatures that defy conventional biology - what Dr. Benner calls "weird life." For the past year, Dr. Benner has served on a National Academy of Sciences committee that is considering just how bizarre extraterrestrial life might be. The official title of the committee's project is "The Limits of Organic Life of Planetary Systems."

TIME CHRONICLES LOST APES OF THE CONGO! January 10, 2005 - TIME magazine has published an article chronicling some of the earliest accounts of Congo's notorious "Lion Killer Apes" or "Bili Apes" as they have come to be known. These creatures were first brought to international attention in 2003, by independent primatologist Shelly Williams. According to Williams, the apes could be a new species unknown to science, a new subspecies of chimpanzee or even a hybrid of the gorilla and the chimp. The unique characteristics they exhibit just don't fit into the other groups of great apes," said Williams. "At the very least, we have a unique, isolated chimp culture that's unlike any that's been studied."

WILD KANGAROO CAPTURED IN WISCONSIN! January 06, 2005 - Yahoo News has reported that Iowa County Sheriff's Deputies corralled a wild kangaroo in a Dodgeville barn after a resident spotted the brownish-red, 150-pound animal. Several people spotted the kangaroo Monday night in rural parts of the southwestern Wisconsin town. Officials have been unable to determine where the animal may have come from, but sightings of "Phantom Kanagroos" in the state date back to June 12, 1899 in Richmond, Wisconsin. According to Sheriff Steve Michek, eyewitnesses have been reluctant to come forward with their sightings for fear of ridicule. "The people that reported it were quite apprehensive to report it because they didn't want to be made a fool of," said Michek.

AMERICAN EXPLORER SETS SIGHTS ON NESSIE! January 02, 2005 - The Island Packet has reported that 64 year-old Dan Taylor of South Carolina, is completing work on a 44-foot submarine, which he intends to utilize in his search for the LOCH NESS MONSTER. The sub, which Taylor has dubbed "Nessa", will take this intrepid monster hunter on his second underwater expedition to Loch Ness. Although Taylor went home empty handed after is first attempt in 1969, he remains undaunted in his pursuit of the elusive creature. Biologist Vicki Leonard Mudd, will pilot Nessa during this year's expedition to Loch Ness. "As a biologist, there are a lot of things out there - a lot of species research scientists discover every day," said Mudd. "It's arrogant of humans to think they know everything out there..."

TSUNAMI MAY REVEAL HIDDEN SPECIES! December 31, 2004 - In an article on NCBuy, cryptozoologist Loren Coleman has speculated that the recent tsunami, which has ravaged South Asia, may open the doors to the discovery of at least a handful of new marine and land animal species. While Coleman emphasized that the "human relief efforts must take priority", he expressed concern that clean-up workers may destroy the carcasses of new creatures before scientists can identify them. It is Coleman's hope that if relief workers stumble across any strange sea creatures, that they photograph them and post the images online so they can be researched after humanitarian efforts in the region are complete.

NEW ANIMALS DISCOVERED IN BORNEO! December 24, 2004 - The Nature Conservancy has reported that team of international scientists have discovered at least two new fish species and a variety of previously unknown insect, snail and plant species living in the karst systems of Borneo. The five-week expedition was the first biological study ever to document the plant and animal species that live in the caves and sinkholes of the karst systems of the East Kalimantan region of Borneo. In just five weeks, the expedition team discovered numerous new species previously unknown to science. Who knows what else is out there? said East Kalimantan Program Manager Scott Stanley. If something is not done soon to protect these areas, dozens of species could disappear before anyone knew they ever existed.

RADIO SHOW REPORTS DINOSAUR IN COLORADO! December 24, 2004 - On December 23, George Noory of the internationally broadcast radio program Coast To Coast A.M. reported that an apparently anonymous eyewitness in Colorado claims to have seen velociraptor-like dinosaur cross the street in front of "his" vehicle: The creature ran right in front of the headlights. It was a very big, lizard looking creature, nearly vertical, running on its hind legs. We freaked out. Immediately we thought it was some kind of dinosaur or huge lizard. This report is unconfirmed.

NEW SPECIES OF PRIMATE DISCOVERED IN INDIA! December 19, 2004 - The BBC has reported that Indian researchers from the New York-based Wildlife Conservation Society have found a new species of large primate in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. "What is also remarkable about our discovery is that few would have thought that with over a billion people and retreating wild lands, a new large mammal species would ever be found in India, of all places," said Dr. M. D. Madhusudan. Representatives of the WCS went on to say: "Although the monkey is new to science, the animal is well known to the residents of the Himalayan districts of Tawang and West Kameng, where the species occurs." This discovery has fueled speculation that the nearby Himalayas may conceal yet another beast well known to natives, but as yet unknown to science.

LOREN COLEMAN COUNTS DOWN BIGGEST CRYPTO EVENTS OF 2004! December 17, 2004 - Famed author, lecturer and field investigator, Loren Coleman, recounts some of most phenomenal, intriguing and tragic cryptozoological events of 2004.

EXTINCT MOUSE DISCOVERED IN BAVARIA! December 07, 2004 - Guardian Newspapers have reported that the Bavarian short-eared mouse - a unique species of rodent that lives in a remote part of the Alps, and which has been presumed extinct for the past 42-years - was recently re-discovered by Austrian scientist, Friederike Spitzenberger, who stumbled upon a live specimen in one of her traps. This extremely rare "vole" was last seen by a German zoologist in 1962. Dr. Spitzenberger said she found the mouse in August in an isolated spruce forest full of brooks. But it was only after examining its chromosomes and comparing its DNA with that of a stuffed museum specimen that she was able to identify it as the lost species.

MARINE SCIENTISTS "UNVEIL" NEW OCEAN SPECIES! November 28, 2004 - MSNBC has reported that Marine scientists have discovered 106 new species of fish and hundreds more new species of plants and other animals in the past year, raising the number of life-forms found in the worlds oceans to about 230,000. The 1,000 scientist supported, 70 nation project known as the Census of Marine Life, now four years into a planned 10-year count, say the rate of discovery shows no sign of slowing, even in European and other waters heavily studied in the past. Scientists predict that approximately 2,000,000 species will be identified before the project is finished.

DIPLOCAULUS PHOTO CAUSES CONTROVERSY! November 22, 2004 - In an article for the The Sunday Times, Professor Patrick J. Schembri, of the Department of Biology at the University of Malta, claims that a controversial photograph of an allegedly extinct, 270,000,000 year-old amphibian known as the Diplocaulus is, in fact, a hoax. The photo, which has been circulating in crypto-circles on the internet, appears to show a large, salamander-like creature with a boomerang shaped head. Although Professor Schembri never cites why he believed the image was faked, he did concede that if these creatures were proven to be still living their existence would rival even the rediscovery of the COELACANTH.

SCIENTISTS DEBATE THE CREATION OF HUMAN-ANIMAL HYBRIDS! November 20, 2004 - MSNBC discusses the ethical and legal controversies surrounding scientific research being conducted on man-made, Human-Animal Hybrids, which biologists refer to as CHIMERAS, after the mythical Greek creature with a lion's head, a goat's body and a serpent's tail. Some of the examples include: pigs born with human blood in their veins, sheep whose livers and hearts are largely human, and mice with human brain cells firing inside their skulls.

"MISSING LINK" DISCOVERED IN SPAIN! November 19, 2004 - The BBC has reported that palaeontologists digging near Barcelona have unearthed 13-million-year-old remains of a primate which they believe may have been ancestral not only to humans, but to all great apes. Salvador Moy-Sol of the Miquel Crusafont Institute of Palaeontology discovered parts of the skull, ribcage, spine, hands and feet of an entirely new genus and species: Pierolapithecus catalaunicus. "Pierolapithecus probably is, or is very close to, the last common ancestor of great apes and humans," said Professor Moy-Sol.

TEXAS CHUPACABRA EYEWITNESSES SPEAK! November 16, 2004 - WOAI has brought together Elmendorf rancher, Devin MacNally and East Texas zookeper and veterinarian assistant, Stacy Womack to discuss their theories regarding the origins as well as their personal encounters with the animals now know as "TEXAS CHUPACABRAS". Among numerous points of discussion, Womack dismiised the hypothesis that these creatures are nothing more than coyotes with sever mange: "This was not a secondary infection, Womack pointed out as she examined the pictures. This was scaly skin. There was no secondary infection in this animal caused by mange. Discuss these fascinating creatures here.

NEW SKUNK APE SIGHTING IN FLORIDA! November 15, 2004 - Lakeland, Florida's The Ledger has reported that an 8-foot tall, SKUNK APE-like creature was seen by eyewitness Jennifer Ward, while driving through the Green Swamp. According to Ward, the simian beast was standing in a drainage ditch by the side of Moore Road in northern Polk County as she drove through the area just days after Hurricane Charley. Ward claims she didn't stop because her two daughters were sleeping in the back seat and she feared the animal might attack her Toyota 4Runner. She went back to the scene later to search for hair or footprints, but found no conclusive evidence. "I've heard about BIGFOOT and stuff," Ward said. "I didn't really think it existed, but I'm convinced now." Read more here.

PANTHER SPOTTED IN DETROIT! November 12, 2004 - According to NBC the Oakland County Sheriff's Office have received their second report of a panther sighting in Rochester Hills. The most recent occurred last Friday at about noon, when two construction workers on a break spotted a large black cat roaming on a cider mill's property near the intersection of Dequindre and Avon Road. The animal was described as black, approximately 4-feet in length with a long tail. Sheriff's deputies from the aviation unit conducted an aerial search, and officers from the substation conducted a land search. The animal was not found

MICRO-HUMANS JOIN FAMILY TREE! October 29, 2004 - The BBC has reported that Australian archaeologists have discovered a new and tiny species of human that lived in Indonesia at the same time that modern humans were colonizing the world. Scientists unearthed the 3-foot tall bones while digging at a site called Liang Bua, which is one of numerous limestone caves on Flores Island. The skeletal remains, which were at first believed to be those of a child, date back to 12,000 years ago. Even more intriguing is the fact that Flores' inhabitants have incredibly detailed legends about the existence of little people on the island they call Ebu Gogo. "There have always been myths about small people - Ireland has its Leprechauns and Australia has the Yowies. I suppose there's some feeling that this is an oral history going back to the survival of these small people into recent times," said co-discoverer Peter Brown, an associate professor of archaeology at New England.

GIANT SUNFISH WASHES UP IN NEW ZEALAND! October 28, 2004 - New Zealand's Stuff online has reported that a 9-foot long sunfish has washed up near the base of Farewell Spit at Taupata Creek near Puponga. Department of Conservation worker, Heather Gunn, said she was driving past when she saw "a big lump" on the beach, which she initially assumed was a whale. "It looked fresh. It did not smell and it had not been pecked over," said Gunn.

NEW PHOTOS OF TEXAS "CHUPACABRA"! October 26, 2004 - San Antonio's WOAI has reported that Nacogdoches native Michael Rigsby has taken photos of a bizarre, canine-like animal, which some claim resembles the now renowned "Beast of Elmendorf". The photographs are shrouded in fog, but distinctly show a unique, fur bearing animal. Another man in east Texas reported seeing a chupacabra-type animal near Lufkin a few weeks ago.

EXTINCT PINE MARTEN SEEN IN ENGLAND! October 26, 2004 - The BBC has reported that wildlife experts believe that the small, tree dwelling mammal known as the Pine Marten - which was declared extinct in England a decade ago - is making a comeback in North Yorkshire. The Forestry Commission has teamed up with the Moors National Park, Hull University and local conservationists to find conclusive evidence that pine martens have ventured south from their refuge in the Scottish highlands. "My gut feeling is that we do have pine martens in this part of North Yorkshire," said Brian Walker, Forestry Commission biodiversity officer. "Over the years we've had many sightings, some cases of mistaken identity, but others very convincing."

SCI-FI TO AIR FILM OF OGOPOGO! October 25, 2004 - The Kelowna B.C. Daily Courier has reported that John Casorso may have captured video footage of the legendary Canadian Lake Monster OGOPOGO after the creature collided with his rented houseboat on the morning of August 9th. The video - which allegedly shows multiple, 45-foot long, writhing shapes moving across Okanagan Lake - was taken after Casorso and his family's boat was "fiercely" rocked upon impact with the creatures. "The only reason we noticed it is because it passed underneath the houseboat," said Casorso. "We could really feel the power and size of what it was." The footage will be aired on the SCI-FI Channel's Proof Positive on December 1.

ANOTHER "CHUPACABRA" CORPSE FOUND IN TEXAS! October 14, 2004 - San Antonio's WOAI has reported that Texas animal authorities are having a difficult time identifying a bizarre looking animal that was killed in Angelina County on Friday. According to preliminary accounts, the animal - which bears a more than a passing resemblance to the as yet unidentified "Elmendorf Beast" killed near San Antonio earlier this year - was shot dead by the brother of zoo and veterinary worker Stacy Womak. Womack was called to take photographs of the animal, and possibly help identify it. "It's not a dog," claimed Womak. "It had no hair, a severe overbite and its claws were entirely too long for a dog."

BRITISH EXPLORERS FIND EVIDENCE OF JUNGLE YETI! October 13, 2004 - The BBC has reported that British explorers Adam Davies and Andrew Sanderson claim to have found footprints of a bipedal, ape-like creature, which Sumatran natives refer to as the Orang-Pendek. These tracks - which were discovered in the Bukkantingi area of the island - allegedly match other tracks that were discovered by the same intrepid investigators three years ago on a similar expedition. The first set of tracks were analyzed independently by scientists (including a Cambridge primatologist) and were shown to be from an unknown species of ape. "When we arrived in Bukkantingi, we were told by the villagers that they had seen the Orang-Pendek only two days earlier," claimed Davies. "We set after it and found new prints which we made casts of and which matched the prints which we discovered on our last trip."

JAPANESE TV CREW TO SEARCH FOR IRISH LAKE MONSTERS! October 08, 2004 - The Galway Advertiser has reported that a Japanese television crew will be in Galway in October to investigate the reported sightings of a monster in the lakes around Clifden. The TV crew is coming to Ireland to make a documentary for a Japanese version of the Discovery Channel about lake monsters in Ireland and will also be visiting lakes in Cork and Kerry. The five man crew will investigate their theory that there could be as many as three undiscovered species of amphibious animals living in the lakes around Clifden, including the controversial "Horse-eel", which is described as being almost identical to the infamous KELPIE of the British Isles.

THE MONSTROUS TASK TO PROTECT STORSIE September 23, 2004 - According to a GUST press release, a bureacracy technicality has forced the Jamtlanders to declare an open season on the Lake-Monster known as Storsie. GUST has been asked to search and catch Storsie in the summer of 2005, in order to allow the animal to be protected by Swedish law. Jan Sundberg is assembling an international team for this pursuit, which consists of Swedes, Norwegians, Finnish and Canadians.

PRIEST SPIES LAKE MONSTER! September 18, 2004 - The Edmonton Journal has reported that Father Jim Lynn has reported seeing a dragon headed monster move at an incredible speed through the murky depths of the North America's deepest freshwater body, the Great Slave Lake. According to the Roman Catholic Priest, he was looking out from his home when he saw an object rise approximately 7-feet above the waterline as it trailed a small boat, before disappearing behind an island. Dubbed Ol' Slavey by columnist Chris Woodall, this creature has been seen by locals for generations and has even had a run in with Arctic Divers during a deep-water body retrieval operation. It looked much like an alligator, but with a head like a pike," said Wayne Gzowski, the company's district manager. "I really do believe that there's unknown marine life in a lot of these areas. In places that have never before been explored by humans.

UNKNOWN PRIMATE RUNS WILD IN TEXAS! September 16, 2004 - The Leader-News has reported that residents of El Campo in Matagorda County, Texas have been reporting bizarre encounters with what one eyewitness has described as a: grayish animal that looked like an overgrown monkey. The local sheriffs department confirmed that a deputy was summoned to an El Campo home in order to investigate one of the reports and that the eyewitnesses (who chose to remain anonymous) described the animal as being approximately five feet tall with a man-like face and a flatter than a human nose. The deputy reported the male witness was disturbed and shaken, but very sober and clear-minded, at the time of the sighting. I know youre going to think Im crazy, but I am not and I have not been drinking whatsoever, the witness reportedly told the deputy.

BIGFOOT ALIVE AND WELL CLAIMS RESEARCHER! September 15, 2004 - The News Center has reported that Sasquatch researcher Chris Murphy, claims that the number of Bigfoot sightings has increased in the last two years, even though the hairy creature has been virtually ignored by mainstream press ever since the death of notorious hoaxer Ray Wallace, who was allegedly behind numerous Bigfoot reports during the 1950s. According to Murphy there are about 400 Sasquatch sightings per year from what he calls "very credible sources", as well as large amounts of Sasquatch scat, which he claims resembles human feces "except that it has more hair and wood chips in it."

BRITS TO CONTINUE PURSUIT OF ORANG-PENDEK! September 08, 2004 - The BBC has reported that British explorers Adam Davies and Andrew Sanderson who, in 2001, discovered hair samples and took foot casts of an unknown primate on the small, Indonesia island of Sumatra - are planning a return trip into the rain forest in order to bring back photographic evidence of the existence of a mythical half-ape, half-man, which the natives refer to as the Orang-Pendak. The creature, which is also known as the Little Man of the Forest, was first chronicled by the explorer Marco Polo in 1292 during his travels in Asia. Although widely believed to exist by islanders, the creature has been dismissed by most scientists as a myth, similar to the Himalayan yeti or the Loch Ness Monster. "What we want to do now is capture it on film," said Davies. "Capturing it on film will light people's imaginations and arouse interest. That's important because that's an area which is under extreme environmental pressure and it will help that area to be preserved."

CHINESE SCIENTISTS SEARCH FOR GARGANTUAN FISH! August 23, 2004 - The Manila times has reported that Chinese scientists are planning to launch an expedition next month to search for Chinas fabled "Kanasi Lake Monsters". For centuries stories of these mysterious, livestock devouring creatures have emanated from the Xinjiang region's Altay Prefecture. Inspired by these reports an expedition was mounted to the lake in 1985 by teachers and students from the Xinjiang University Department of Biology. The group discovered that dozens of gigantic, red, salmonid fish - some of which grew to a length of 49.5-feet and weighed more than 4 tons - resided in the lake. This new expedition hopes to confirm whether or not these creatures are responsible for the spate of livestock deaths associated with the lake.

"SELMA" CAUGHT ON TAPE! August 17, 2004 - Norway's Aftenposten has reported that Swedish monster hunter - and GUST leader - Jan-Ove Sundberg believes that he has captured Lake Seljord's legendary serpent "SELMA" on tape. According to Sundberg the 20-second clip, which was captured on the final day of a lake monster expedition, shows an animate object diving into the lake. "I have either filmed a gnarled head or the upper part of a hump complete with serrations," Sundberg told newspaper Varden. "The others didn't get a chance to see what I saw because suddenly it was gone. So it couldn't have been a buoy. Ducks can dive but they come back up. This didn't, so I don't understand what it could have been except for the sea serpent."

NEW BIRD DISCOVERED IN PHILIPPINES! August 16, 2004 - BirdLife International has reported that a new species of flightless bird has been discovered on the remote island of Calayan, located in the northern Philippines, by a team of Filipino and British wildlife researchers. The Calayan Rail (so named after its home island) has a strikingly bright red beak and legs, which contrast with its dark plumage. Although the bird is new to science, it was well known to the indigenous people of the island as the "Piding" - I felt sure the Babuyan Islands would hold some interesting discoveries, but I didnt expect to find a totally new species! said Genevieve Broad, the co-leader of the expedition. Im thrilled for the team. I hope this will bring the recognition these islands deserve as an important site of biological diversity.

CHAMP DAY CELEBRATED AT PORT HENRY! August 08, 2004 - Capital 9 News has reported that the citizens of of the small village of Port Henry on Lake Champlain have joined together for the 18th year in order to celebrate their very own LAKE-MONSTER, a beast known worldwide as CHAMP. Organizers said every year Champ Day has gotten bigger and with the latest sighting making headlines residents in this small village believe every day could be Champ's day. STRANGE SPECIES DISCOVERED IN ATLANTIC ABYSS! August 05, 2004 - National Geographic has reported that a plethora of heretofore undescribed deep-sea creatures have surfaced during a two-month voyage of scientific discovery in the mid-Atlantic Ocean. Researchers arrived in Norway with a cargo of strange creatures trawled from the mid-Atlantic abyss, which includes both fish and squid that may be new to science. "Each time we splashed into the sea with an ROV we encountered wondrous and apparently undescribed animals that behave in unexpected ways," said MAR-ECO project leader Odd Aksel Bergstad, from the Institute for Marine Research in Bergen, Norway. Bergstad also mentioned that "tracks" of an unknown creature where also discovered. "At around 2,000 meters we observed a great number of traces left by an unknown animal. The traces were almost straight or curved lines of regularly placed perforations, as if somebody used a sewing machine to create this landscape."

ELMENDORF CHUPACABRA TO BE EXHUMED! August 05, 2004 - San Antonio's WOAI News has reported that the bizarre animal, which was shot and killed in Elmendorf by rancher Devin McAnally, is creating a surge of controversy among scientists all across the country. The creature, which was allegedly responsible for the deaths of more than 30 chickens in a daylight raid, has been compared to a hairless Mexican canine, a mangy coyote, a Muntjac deer and even the legendary Chupacabra. Whitley Strieber's The Communion Foundation will exhume McAnally's creature and send it out for DNA testing. "I've had a number of biologists look at that picture of the creature and no one - so far - has come up with a definitive identity for it," says Strieber. "There have been some ideas, but so far we haven't seen anything that is definitive. And so we are interested and hopeful that we have the excitement of finding something really new." August 04, 2004 - ABC News, Central New York's NBC affiliate WSTM and the Press Republican have all reported that Maryland vacationer Bob Gload, as well as four of his grandchildren, claimed to have witnessed a black, snake-like creature devour a seagull while bass fishing on Lake Champlain near the village of Port Henry last Wednesday. While the four youngsters say they werent afraid of Lake Champlains monster, CHAMP, none of them is eager to go swimming. "Im kind of creeped out something that big is out there," said twelve year-old Taylor Gload. "At least if theres someone with you, it can eat the other people first." His grandfather, a one time skeptic, now claims he has changed his tune. "I was born in Champlain. I never believed in Champ or the Loch Ness monster," said Bob Gload of Crofton, Maryland. "I believe now."

TWO NEW SPECIES OF WORMS DISCOVERED! July 29, 2004 - CNN has reported that two strange new species of worms, without eyes or stomachs or even mouths, have been discovered living on the bones of dead whales in California's Monterey Bay. Researcher Robert Vrijenhoek, of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, said the worms, ranging from 1-inch to 2 1/2-inches long, have colorful, feathery plumes that serve as gills and green "roots" that work their way into the bones of dead whales. The researchers named the worms, a new genus, Osedax, which is Latin for bone eating. Vrijenhoek remains optimistic about the discovery of new life forms: "There are many things left to discover in this world. Some we find by accident... and some we find because we look in places that few people have explored before, as in much of our work in the deep oceans."

THE NEW YORK TIMES DISCUSSES GLOBSTERS! July 27, 2004 - The New York Times has published an article dealing with history of large, organic, gelatinous objects which have been deposited from the ocean's depths onto shorelines worldwide. The remains (which are commonly referred to in crypto circles as GLOBSTERS) have been dismissed by most of the scientific establishment as nothing more than whale blubber, yet this phenomenon continues to intrigue to this day. Dr. Joseph F. Gennaro Jr., a cell biologist at the University of Florida, tells of how he got a sample of the (ST. AUGUSTINE) blob from the Smithsonian and examined it closely under microscopes and polarized light. "The sample was not whale blubber," Gennaro wrote. "The evidence appears unmistakable that the St. Augustine sea monster was in fact an octopus, but the implications are fantastic."

MYSTERY CREATURE LURKS IN MARYLAND! July 19, 2004 - Baltimore's WBAL news team has reported that bizarre canine-like mammal, which eyewitnesses have been reporting for over a month, has finally been videotaped by Glyndon resident Jay Wroe. According to eyewitness accounts, the creature in question is not shy, and visits most often during daylight hours. While some wildlife "experts" have already begun to speculate that this animal is nothing more than a fox with mange, those who have actually seen the beast contend that it is a combination of a hyena and a coyote - resulting in its unofficial name - the hyote. "(It's) very bizarre," said Wroe. "I went and got my father and cousin and they came and looked at it and their reactions were pretty much the same - what in the world are we looking at?"

LION ON THE PROWL IN OHIO! July 11, 2004 - The Ohio News Network has reported that Madison Township firefighter Ed Dildin claims to have seen a lion near a Columbus suburb on Thursday. He described the animal as about 200 pounds and blond, with a sleek body and long tail. Some people believe that this is the same African lion allegedly seen roaming near the Gahanna area, a northeast Columbus suburb, in early May. At the height of the big cat alert in Gahanna, helicopters hovered over the city and police advised residents to keep their garage doors closed and kids inside. "I promise you it was a lion," insisted Dildin.

ANTARCTIC LAKE MAY HARBOR PREHISTORIC LIFE! July 09, 2004 - The USA Today reports that researchers have discovered that Lake Vostok, which is a liquid lake buried under more than two miles of ice near the center of Antarctica, is divided into two deep basins. Scientists at the Russian Vostok research station speculate that these two isolated basins may not only support different forms of life, but might also harbor prehistoric lifeforms. "Lake Vostok, the largest of the polar lakes, lies beneath more than two miles of ice and is thought to have a liquid pool with a depth of about 3,000 feet," said John C. Priscu of Montana State University. "This is one of the last unexplored frontiers of our planet."

SCIENTISTS PLAN SEARCH FOR NEW LIFE IN ARCTIC OCEAN! June 25, 2004 - The BBC has reported that an international scientific team, based at the University of Alaska, is planning an expedition this August to record and list the species thought to live deep in the Arctic Ocean. The search will include one area which has been undisturbed for millennia, and is presumed to contain the Earth's oldest seawater. The team, which will employ submersibles, sonar detection and traditional techniques to record and make an inventory of the Arctic Ocean's lifeforms, believes it is likely to find species never recorded before. Among the novel animals the researchers expect to discover are cephalopods (like octopus, squid and cuttlefish) and jellyfish.

DNA TEST SOLVES MYSTERY OF CHILEAN BLOB! June 24, 2004 - The CBC has reported that researchers from the Woods Hole Institute in Massachusetts have confirmed that the 12-meter mass of gelatinous flesh that washed up on the Chilean coast in July of 2003, were the remains of a whale and not those of a giant octopus, as some had speculated. "These results unequivocally demonstrate that the Chilean blob is the almost completely decomposed remains of the blubber layer of a sperm whale," the team wrote in the June issue of The Biological Bulletin.

NEW FISH SPECIES DISCOVERED IN RIO! June 18, 2004 - CNN has reported that Brazilian scientists have discovered a new fish species, which they believe has lurked deep in the south Atlantic Ocean for over 150 million years. The fish, of the Chimaera genus, is about 12-16 inches in length and is found at depths between 1,300 to 2,000-feet. "This is a fantastic discovery, because before this we believed there were no Chimaera off the Brazilian coast," said ichthyologist Jules Soto, who discovered the fish. "I could see right away it was a very different animal, just from the shape of the fins." The fish was initially found off the southern coast of Brazil in 2001 by commercial fishermen. Realizing it was a new species, Brazilian scientists dredged the ocean floor to find more examples of the fish. "The species that we found has fossil records that are 150, 180 million years old," said Soto. "That's very rare. It's like if we had an animal as old as the Tyrannosaurus rex still alive." Discuss this amazing discovery here.

WOLF-LIKE CREATURE ON THE PROWL IN WALES! June 12, 2004 - The Daily Post has reported that experts are investigating reports of a large wolf-like creature which is allegedly on the prowl in a North Wales town. The RSPCA received numerous reports after residents spotted a grey, fur covered predator roaming the streets of the village terrorising cats. "I saw it across the road - the size of an Alsatian, grey and with a long snout," claimed Pensioner Roy Chambers. "It wasn't a dog, there's no doubt about that, but it definitely wasn't a big cat either."

BRITISH EXPLORERS HUNT FOR ORANG-PENDEK! June 11, 2004 - The Manchester News has reported that Adam Sanderson and Adam Davies who, in 2001, discovered hair samples and took foot casts of an unknown primate on the small, island nation - are planning a return trip into the Sumatran rain forest in order to bring back photographic evidence of the existence of a mythical half-ape, half-man, which the natives refer to as the Orang-Pendak. Tests by experts at Cambridge University and in Australia have confirmed that a footprint and hairs previously brought back from Sumatra by Stockport explorer Davies do not belong to any known species. "The footprints I have looked at are unique, claimed Cambridge University primatologist Dr David Chivers. It has something in common with apes, gibbons and humans, but it is different."

YUKON VILLAGERS REPORT BIGFOOT SIGHTING! June 07, 2004 - The CBC reported that Marion Sheldon and Gus Jules claim to have come face to face with the legendary Sasquatch, while driving down the side of the highway in an all-terrain vehicle on Saturday evening. The duo reported the sighting to Conservation Officer Dave Bakica, stating that the creature crossed the highway at the construction zone near the Teslin airport. Bakica said he searched the area for tracks but they may have been wiped out by Saturday evening's rain. He further stated that both witnesses appeared very shaken by the sighting.

WOMAN SIGHTS OGOPOGO TWICE! June 04, 2004 - British Columbia's The Province has reported that Lake Okanagan's mot famous native, OGOPOGO has been spotted not once, but twice during the past two weeks. Both reports were filed by Vernon resident Debbie Gelter, who claims to have most recently seen "three long, shiny, black humps about five metres long" after hearing a loud bang in the water. Gelter has also issued a report in which she spied "a dinosaur-shaped head and neck moving through the water" approximately two weeks prior.

UNIDENTIFIED ANIMAL PHOTOGRAPHED IN U.S. June 03, 2004 - The North Carolina News Record has reported that an unidentified mammal has been photographed Bill Kurdian in eastern Randolph County. The image of the creature, which has been described as being "about the size of a fox... with short brown hair and a long cat-like tail", was captured using a motion-sensing camera on May 20, 2004. Kurdian showed the photo to Guy Lichty, a curator of mammals at the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro, but Lichty and other curators were still unable to conclusively identify the animal. "Everybody thought I was crazy," said Kurdian, the vice president of Matlab in Asheboro. "I don't think it's a vicious animal. It's just interesting."

NEW SPECIES DISCOVERED IN THE PHILIPPINES! May 27, 2004 - According to the Inquirer News Service a team of Filipino and American biologists have discovered a single, mouse-like mammal, which experts say may not be found anywhere else in the world. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources announced on Thursday that the newly discovered species was found on Mount Banahaw in the Luzon region of the Philippines. The creature was described as having yellowish fur and the basic features of a mouse, but with an extraordinarily large head and heavily muscled jaws. The lone sample found will be shipped to the US for further study. Experts say that The Philippines has at least 52,177 species of plants, animals and other life forms, more than half of which are not found in other countries. Discuss this discovery here.

LAWNDALE THUNDERBIRDS REVISITED! May 03, 2004 - The Journal Gazette of Mattoon, Illinois, has reported that a Discovery Channel film crew has documented Tuscola chief - John "A.J." Huffer's - account of how he captured 100-feet of color, 16mm film showing what he believed to be two Thunderbirds in flight. The footage - which was shot on the morning of July 26, 1977, in a cove near the Findlay marina on Lake Shelbyville - came hot on the heels of the legendary "Lawndale Thunderbird" incident, during which a large bird qllegedly swooped down and momentarily grabbed a young boy by the name of Marlon Lowe. According to Cherokee legend these colossal Avian-Anomalies return every 27 years to steal away the children of the tribe. "It takes a Cherokee to film a Cherokee legend," said Huffer, now 69. "I think I have photographed a living legend."

NEW SPECIES OF DEEP-SEA PREDATOR DISCOVERED! March 24, 2004 - The Science Daily news has reported that Dr. Tracey Sutton, a fish ecologist at the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution in Ft. Pierce, Florida, has discovered a new species of dragonfish. The find, which was made off the New England coast, is the first new dragonfish species to be discovered in more than a decade. This new species of bizarre and elusive deep-sea predatory fish has been described as having bioluminescence, menacing teeth, and a mouth that can jut out to engulf prey as wide as it is. "The fact that we are still finding new species in one of the best-studied oceanic regions in the world tells us there is still a lot more out there to be known," says Sutton, who is also a leader in the ambitious international effort to identify all ocean animal and plant species known as the Census of Marine Life.

POLICE SEARCH FOR LIVING DINOSAUR! March 12, 2004 - ABC World News as well as South Africa's IOL have reported that police forces armed with M-16s have been sent to the Papua New Guinea province of East New Britain in search of a living dinosaur. For years reports of a 12-foot tall, grey scaled, tyrannosaurus-like beast (know to the natives as MURRAY) have emanated from the volcanic island, but after a rash of dog slayings and eyewitness accounts - including one by Christine Samei who told reporters that she ran for her life after seeing a three-meter tall, grey creature with a head like a dog and a tail like a crocodile which was as fat as a 900-litre water tank - the police have decided that the evidence was enough to warrant the deployment of a heavily-armed search party in pursuit of the beast. Although police found no trace of the creature, Senior Sergeant Leuth Nidung warned villagers to take extra precautions when going about their daily business. Discuss this here - read more >>

PATTERSON / GIMLIN FOOTAGE A HOAX? March 07, 2004 - The Washington Post has reported that a retired Pepsi bottler from Yakima, Washington, Bob Heironimus, has claimed that he is the "man in the suit" in the famous Patterson/Gimlin footage. Heironimus made his "confession" in a recently published book by paranormal investigator Greg Long - in which the author claims the BIGFOOT "costume" was created by North Carolina gorilla suit specialist, Philip Morris. "I was never paid a dime for that, no sir," said Heironimus, "Sure I want to make some money. I feel that after 36 years I should get some of it." Minneapolis lawyer, Tom Malone, made a statement on the behalf of Bob Gimlin: "I'm authorized to tell you that nobody wore a gorilla suit or monkey suit and that Mr. Gimlin's position is that it's absolutely false and untrue." Discuss this disclosure here.

RASH OF BIGFOOT SIGHTINGS IN NORTH DAKOTA! March 03, 2004 - The Minot Daily News has reported that there has been a rash of "BIGFOOT" sightings in recent days on the Fort Berthold Reservation in North Dakota. The reports began on Feb. 22, and additional accounts have been filtering in ever since. Glenda Embry, who is in charge of tribal public affairs, related a recent account, which occurred at a local mobil home park: "(The eyewitness) said all the kids were playing outside in the trailer court and they were the ones that first saw it. They all started screaming so she came outside but by the time she got outside, they had scared it. She said it was walking away. She said it was huge." Large tracks have been discovered near the site, but officials have yet to identify them. Discuss these intriguing sightings here.

PIRANHA DISCOVERED IN LONDON RIVER! February 20, 2004 - CNN has reported that a 4-inch-long red-bellied piranha - an aquatic carnivore which is native to the warm lowland streams and lakes in South America - was discovered in London's famed Thames River, after a seagull dropped the recently deceased fish onto the deck of a boat. Experts have attempted to stave off a panic by assuring Londoners that piranha are not as vicious has their reputation would indicate. These same experts were unable to explain the presence of this fish in British waters, but they all agreed that it was still alive when captured by the bird of prey. "It was very fresh and had obviously only just died. You could see the marks made by the seagull's beak on its back," fisheries officer Tom Cousins said. Learn more about the red-bellied piranha here.

NEW SPECIES OF WATER FLEA MAY BE MISSING LINK! February 18, 2004 - The University of Wisconsin Madison has announced that a new species of water flea, "Dumontia oregonensis," has been discovered in a temporary pond located in Oregon's Agate Desert. Scientists say that this new species is significant because it represents an entirely new family of water fleas, which may be a missing link, as it embodies a range of anatomical features shared by all the different branches of the water flea family tree. "One hundred years after we thought we had everything there was at the family level, along comes this animal," says UW-Madison professor of zoology Stanley Dodson. "It is incredibly unlikely that you're going to find anything new and different today because people have been out collecting these things in North America for more than a hundred years. That's why this is a special animal."

SCIENTISTS STRIVE TO CREATE NEW LIFE FORM! February 14, 2004 - The Albuquerque Tribune of New Mexico has reported that scientists working at Los Alamos National Laboratory - the birthplace of the atomic bomb - claim that they are on the cusp of creating an organism completely different from any other known life form on Earth. According to an article published in the journal Science, the team hopes to create a new organism 10 million times smaller than the smallest bacteria. "If we can build creatures like this from scratch, we can design them to do things we've never seen in nature," said Steen Rasmussen, a scientist on the project. "They could be the building blocks for self-repairing systems, but we could also design them with metabolisms not found in nature. We could make them eat the worst contaminants out there, then die when they run out of food."

FOUR-ARMED JELLYFISH DISCOVERED! February 09, 2004 - Nature online magazine has reported that researcher Kevin Raskoff of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute in California has discovered a new species of jellyfish - "Stellamedusa ventana" or "Bumpy" - that so unique when compared to its fellow creatures it merits a new subfamily all its own. The subfamily has been named "Stellamedusinae", and brings the total number of jellyfish subfamilies to eight. This is a pretty big deal," says Raskoff. "For comparison, lions and domestic cats belong to the same family, but different subfamilies. This is a jellyfish equivalent."

EXTINCT MONKEY FOUND IN AFRICA! February 06, 2004 - CNN has reported that the fresh carcass of a Miss Waldron's red colobus monkey, which was thought to have become extinct approximately 25 years ago, has been discovered on Africa's Ivory Coast. Two years ago, anthropologist W. Scott McGraw retrieved the skin of a monkey, which a hunter killed in Ivory Coast, that bore the markings of the red colobus. The pelt was smattered with freshly dried blood. Recently, McGraw received what he is convinced is a genuine photo of a dead red colobus. If the animal had actually become extinct, it would have been the first primate species to do so in the last 200 years. Read more here.

NEW SPECIES OF DESERT SHREW UNEARTHED! January 30, 2004 - The Science Daily has reported that a species of shrew, which was first discovered approximately 40 years ago, has finally been recognized as a new species. This is the first new species of mammal to have been officially recognized in Arizona since 1977. The discovery was made by Texas Tech University professor, Robert Baker, who has named the newly identified mammal species Notiosorex cockrumi in honor of UA Professor Emeritus E. Lendell Cockrum. Discuss this discovery here.

BIGFOOT PROTECTION LAW PROPOSED IN NEW YORK! January 29, 2004 - Capital 9 News has reported that New York Bigfoot researcher, Paul Bartholomew, has proposed a protective ordinance for Hairy-Hominids in the Whitehall area of upstate New York. The ordinance would protect these creatures under the law, and it would also offically recognize their existence. In 1976, there reportedly was a Bigfoot sighting in Whitehall on Abair Road. Bartholomew said, "What was sighted out there was a large creature, 7 to 8 feet tall, walking like a gorilla hunched over, making a sound like a woman screaming. The Whitehall town board will review the resolution at its next meeting on February, 5th. Discuss this development here.

NEW SPECIES OF BIRD DISCOVERED IN INDONESIA! January 26, 2004 - National Geographic has reported that David Kelly, from Trinity College, and Martin Meads, a freelance researcher, have discovered a new species of bird last summer on the Indonesian Island of Wangi Wangi in southeast Sulawesi. The bird's DNA is soon to be analyzed to determine whether it's a new species or a radically altered subspecies, descended from castaways blown from another island. Discuss the fascinating find here.

NEW SPECIES OF FISH DISCOVERED IN TEXAS! January 22, 2004 - The Texas Star-Telegram reported today that a new species of fish was discovered in West Texas, making it the first new vertebrate to have been discovered in that state in the past three decades. This fish, which is officially known as San Felipe gambusia (also known as mosquito fish), was actually found about seven years ago by University of Texas-Pan American biologist Robert Edwards and state biologist Gary Garrett, but it wasnt until their discovery was published last month in the international journal Copeia that it received proper scientific approval. "There are not very many more fish to be found in the United States, other than the oceanic depths. Finding a new species is kind of special, regardless of where you find it," said Clark Hubbs, a professor emeritus at the University of Texas at Austin who was the inspiration for the species' Latin name, Gambusia clarkhubbsi.

CROCODILES SPOTTED IN COSTA RICA! January 22, 2004 - Tim Rogers of the Tico-Times has reported that residents surrounding Northern Costa Rica's Lake Arenal the alleged home of the LAKE ARENAL MONSTER - claim to be encountering not just one fantastic beast, but a plethora of full grown crocodiles, a species which is not indigenous to the region. The sightings, which have been going on for almost half a decade have reached a fever pitch during the past six months, frightening both fisherman and bathers out of the water. Numerous eyewitnesses claim to have seen these prehistoric creatures, including Jos Quirs, operator of the Costa Rican Electricity Institute hydroelectric plant at Lake Arenal. He claims that he saw a crocodile sunning itself last year in the muddy shallows near the plant's underwater hydroelectric turbines, known as the toma de agua. Company divers are reportedly leery about bumping into the unwelcome visitors during maintenance dives on the turbines, which are located 30 meters below the surface.

NILE EXPLORERS SET SAIL! January 17, 2004 - The BBC has reported that Hendri Coetzee and his international team of adventurers have finally set sail upon the treacherous waters of the White Nile. The voyage, mostly by raft, aims to encounter so-called lost tribes, which may still live in these still virtually unexplored regions of Uganda and Sudan, as well as draw attention to the plight of the indigenous people who live along the Nile. Cryptozoological investigators are keeping a close eye on this investigation as the explorers' route will take them through territories allegedly inhabited by such unknown creatures as the LUKWATA and the LAU.

HUMAN-PIG HYBRID CELLS CREATED! January 15, 2004 - The BBC has reported that a chimera creature came into being for the first time as a result of a complete fusion of human and pig blood cells. Jeffrey Platt, of the Mayo Clinic, discovered the cell mixture and on January 15, The U.K.s "New Scientist" reported this first-of-its kind discovery of half human half animal cells. The discovery was also listed in the latest issue of "Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology Journal." The results of this experiment, which are hoped to one day cure patients with dmaged organs, have already caused alarm in both scientific and theological circles.

NEW SPECIES OF INSECT SHOULDN'T FLY! January 15, 2004 - National Geographic has reported that a new species of predatory insect - Erebomyia exalloptera - has scientists baffled due to the fact that the male specimens of this creature seem to defy the laws of physics by taking flight on wings that are consistently different in shape and size. The animal was first discovered by Pennsylvania State University entomologist Justin Runyon and supervisor Richard Hurley of Montana State University. Preliminary theories suggest that this size discrepancy may help this species to attract mates.

WORLDS LARGEST SNAKE! January 08, 2004 - CNN, as well as MSNBC have reported that villagers hailing from Jakarta, Indonesia have captured a reticulated python, which has measured in at approximately 49-feet in length with a weight of 983 pounds. The Guinness Book of World Records which lists the longest snake ever captured to be 32 feet and the heaviest as being a 402 pound Burmese Python kept in Gurnee remains skeptical regarding the claim. Nevertheless, the alleged size of this animal has renewed some investigator's interest in other gigantic, snake-like creatures such as Thailand's legendary crested serpent, the Naga.

NEW "BRIGHT" SQUID FOUND OFF HAWAII! January 08, 2004 - CBS News has reported that scientists in Hawaii have discovered a new squid which utilizes a unique system of bio-luminescence - in the form of reflective plates that form a built-in light which they believe may be employed to confuse potential predators. The light itself is provided by colonies of luminescent bacteria that live on the squids, the researchers report in Friday's issue of the journal Science. "Light organs are not uncommon in nature," observed Wendy J. Crookes, first author of the paper. "In this one the light organ does have a lens similar to an eye in some respects, but we don't really know its capabilities in terms of specifically directing light." Crookes said the research team led by Margaret J. McFall-Ngai is now studying the relationship between the squids and the bacteria that produce the light.

OCTOPUS CAUGHT IN ILLINOIS LAKE! December 08, 2003 - The Arkansas New Bureau reported today that John Mazurek Sr. of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, caught what has been referred to as a "good sized" octopus near the Lake Conway dam in Arkansas. Dedicated July 4, 1951, the eight mile long Lake Conway is the largest man-made game and fish commission lake in the United States. Since its construction there have been legends of a large, unidentified animal living in the lake - a creature which was presumably spawned in one of the lake's many tributaries such as Stone Dam Creek, Gold Creek, Palarm Creek, Little Cypress Creek and Panther Creek. This specimen of Freshwater Octopi, which was captured alive and has yet to be identified, was presumed to have been illegally placed there by an exotic animal collector. This subterranean relative of the frog is said to resemble a slimy earthworm, but, unlike worms, these animals have jaws, teeth and sometimes scales, a remnant of their piscean ancestry. The species is being named Gegeneophis danieli after eminent naturalist J.C. Daniel, honorary secretary of the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS). This is the first time in more than 30 years that the BNHS has discovered a new species. Discuss this incredible discovery here.

JAPANESE SCIENTISTS DISCOVER NEW SPECIES OF WHALE! November 19, 2003 - National Geographic News has reported that a team of Japanese scientists have confirmed that rorquals commonly referred to as Bryde's whales actually represent three distinct species of cetacean. Rorqual whales (Balaenoptera) do not have teeth. Instead they have baleen, a horny substance found in rows of plates along their upper jaws, and they are thus classified as baleen whales. "It was not a big surprise to me that we encountered the species we described," said Tadasu Yamada, a biologist at the National Science Museum in Tokyo and co-author of the research describing the species. SKUNK APE IS TERRORIZING TENNESSEE! October 22, 2003 - According to a report made by Tennessee's WATE-6, cryptozoologist, Chris Dotson has announced that the huge mystery ape, which has been accused of killing six cats and one dog in the past three days, is not an escaped orangutan as has been speculated, but a relative of the renowned, Florida Skunk Ape. Dotson believes that his speculation was confirmed by the positive identifications he received from multiple eyewitnesses after showing them the now famous Myakka Skunk Ape photos. "We need to capture this thing the best we can," Dotson said. "People need to stay away from it, allow experts to come in who have some knowledge of large primates like this and trap this animal." DNA TESTS CONFIRM THE EXISTENCE OF BRITISH BLACK PANTHER! October 19, 2003 - The London Telegraph reported that DNA tests have now confirmed that a least one big cat lives in the wilds of the English countryside. For decades eyewitnesses have made reports of lethal, feline predators in Great Briton, but these accounts were scoffed at by most of the worlds scientific establishment. That was until a retired couple, Sandy and Julie Richardson, spotted a large, black cat (known as the Lincolnshire Leopard) lurking near an abandoned caravan in their garden: It was about four feet long, plus the head and tail, and the size of one and half Labradors. It was black, with yellowy-orange eyes which were evil to look at, totally dead and soulless, claimed Mr. Richardson. "It bared its four big yellowy-brown teeth but didn't make a noise. As if that werent significant enough, Richard also retrieved DNA samples, which were sent to DNA Bioscience, a company that carries out forensic work, for analysis. Nigel Lound, the wildlife officer for Lincolnshire Police, said: "This is concrete proof, as far as we are concerned. It is certainly the best evidence by a long way that we've had in Lincolnshire of the presence of big cats." Discuss this amazing discovery here.

"LIVING FOSSIL" FROG FOUND IN INDIA! The scientists claimed that they were delighted by this opportunity to study what they believe to be a living, breathing specimen of a branch of frogs which became extinct millions of years ago. Genetic analysis indicates that this amphibious animal is unlike all of the other 4,800 known species of frogs alive today, and scientists have placed this creature in the 30th, and newest, frog "family" - the 29th was discovered in 1926. "I have no idea how many are left in the world," said Franky Bossuyt with the Free University of Brussels, in Belgium. "It will be important to find that out in the near future." read more >>

According to Chilcutt, six footprints, which were allegedly made by a Hairy-Hominid - are genuine. The prints, which Chicutt claims resemble those of a Costa Rican howler Monkey, are notable for the dermal ridges which run across the width of the foot, this is opposite of the vertical ridges found on humans. "As a crime scene investigator, I don't deal in what I believe or what I think, I examine physical evidence and make a determination... I know there's an animal out there, because I've seen the physical evidence." Discuss these developments here

RUSSIAN CLIMBERS FIND YETI FOOT! September 28, 2003 - It was reported this week in The Komsomol Truth, that a group of Russian mountain climbers, led by Sergey Semenovym, discovered the remains of what some scientists believe to be a genuine Yeti leg and foot, on the Severo-Chujsky ridge of the Altai Mountain. The remains, which have been x-rayed, are now in the center of a trmendous controversy. This debate pits scholars who believe that the portions of this hair covered carcass which were brought down from the mountain represent nothing more than a bear or the fossilized remains of a long extinct primate against other scientists - such as professor Alexander Marinin - who insist that these fragments of flesh, hair and bone are from a recently deceased Hairy-Hominid, examples of which have long been reported in the region. Retired game warden Bob Mumley and Lt. District Chief of the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department, Dane Hathaway, both feel that the animal was either a black bear or a moose, but Dufresne disagrees: "It was hairy from the top of his head to the bottom of his feet. It was not walking like a normal person," said Dufresne. "The first thing I thought was this is a gorilla costume. I thought it was a joke, then I put two and two together." read more >>

Lund was equally perplexed, so D'Agata made his way to Central Connecticut State University. Unable to identify the eggs in D'Agata's possession, CCSU representatives arrived at DAgatas home and took more samples in a jar with rain water. "At this point we are still trying to determine what species it is. We have a couple of graduate students who have more experience researching it, but they still dont have a specific identification," said Ruth Rollin, chairman of the CCSU biological department. Initial theories indicate that the eggs may be those of an alligator, which were transported to the north-east via Hurrican Isabel. read more >>
