GIANT SQUID INVADE CALIFORNIA!

The Associated Press has reported that large Humboldt squid (also called the jumbo squid or jumbo flying squid) have overwhelmed California waters off Newport. The squid — which can grow up to 100 pounds and 6 feet long — appeared last week and it wasn’t long before sport anglers descended on the scene and began to catch these creatures by the hundreds. Robert Woodbury with Newport Landing Sportfishing says anglers in Orange County have caught about 400 of the big squid since Friday night.

In September of 2009, another jumbo squid made a splash, when a record-breaking almost 20-foot long, 103-lb beast was pulled from the Gulf of Mexico. This was onlt the 2nd discovery of a GIANT SQUID in the gulf, the first on record was found floating on the water’s surface in 1954.
